They didn't announce the Cardiff team immediately before kick off, because I was waiting for the reception when McPhail's name was mentioned
Its a Wednesday thing, they dont do it at hillsboro' not something we should be doing at Oakwell. Give the oposition some credit and read the team out ffs
It's not just about giveing opposition some credit I like to know who's playing for them - hate it when fans boo so much that you can't hear the announcement.
Isn't it done to save time? Both home and away teams are read out as soon as the announcer knows the teams (around half 2) then again at about 2:50 and then when the teams come out the home team is read again.
I think it's just a question of time, we could either get rid of a theme tune completely and just have Klaitz reading the teams for the third time (for the benefit of those who ignored the advice on their tickets and missed the first two team calls) or we could try to get a little bit of atmosphere into oakwell and just read the home team and have a theme tune.

RE: Isn't it done to save time? They usually read out both teams just prior to kick off when teams are out - gives you a chance to applaud/boo those "making a welcome return to Oakwell" Maybe it was just for the Cardiff match as they didn't want a barrage of abuse towards McPhail
RE: What a nasty word to use this early...Wed...Wed...Cant bring messen Its a first game thing actually. We have done it like that on the first day for the last 3 years - new players welcome etc (especially when Harty signed about ten!!)takes quite a bit longer to do. There is a school of thought that says that the time from when the lads walk out on to the pitch to kick off should belong to them and they should be the focus - not the away team. The teams should be announced about ten minutes before KO anyway. Not sure as to which way is "right" but we will monitor the situation. If the atmosphere is as good as it was the other Setdi then why change owt?
agreed By the time the teams come out i've already heard who's playing for the away team at least twice and as you said sometime last season, in order to read both teams out you have to stop the themetune as soon as the players appear in the tunnel (which defeats the object of having one). Much better to play the themetune as they come out onto the pitch and then just read Barnsley's team. We are afterall the home side.
Had a little chuckle to myself against Wigan when you were unable to spot the difference between Devaney and McParland and Richards and Austin

RE: confused...... Wasnt the word mate! My eyes are bad enough without trying to fathom quadruple subs!! Getting some club binoculars ordered!! Hmm. not a bad idea!(raiseaglass)
RE: confused...... Little suggestion for the away team thing. How about putting the away team lineup on the scoreboard after the reds have bean read out? If people have missed the first two announcements then they can at least read who is playing for the other team without you having to read it out again.
Oh and please try and sort it for the clock to go the traditional way. Pull a few strings.

RE: confused...... I'd prefer that with the clock as well - that way it can continue counting up when it goes into injury time. I had that as a suggestion when their was a section on this site (or might have been the previous site) and the response from the club was that more people preferred it to count down - yet nobody I've spoken to seems to prefer that!
they also said something weird about it didnt they? The excuse was something along the lines of if the clock went the other way then they might get to 90 minutes before the ref because of stoppages so they go the same way as the referee. It didnt make much sense to me at the time to be honest.
Surely it goes against the referee more when the clock is saying there is no time left to be played and the ref is saying that there is (and then like you say it goes into time added on and you have no idea how long has been played).
I've not spoke to anyone who prefers it the way it is at the minute, and presumably ITV, sky sports, Five and the BBC have all concluded that counting up is the more popular option. Counting down is fine in sports where their is a set time limit but in football we regularly go past 90 minutes.

RE: Clock ups! I dont have owt to do with scoreboard, however it would be most amusing if the away team were to be put up just after KO and you lot all boo'ed!! Dont think the FL allow extra minutes to be put up anymore. They stopped it about 3 years ago. See you on Setdi Klaitz
They did it while cardiff were in the tunnel. I can only think it was to keep mcphails boos at bay.ff
RE: That really is the gayest thread ever on this board. All your threads have a gay theme, Tez, have you tried and therefore not knocking it or what? and whats this about you confessing to being Smally's bitch?? Just wondered thats all............
