because some games will be played tonight owing to the vagaries of the weather we could be as low as 8th after tonight-(if Forest win 7-0!!) -7th is more likely and while we have a game in hand psychologically it's bad for morale-a winter break would lessen the likelihood of partial postponements</p>

When do you want to have it???

Traditionally the weather is worse in January/February.

    NO....

but a more structured approach would be sensible.

ie avoid 4 games in 8 days...

just continue as you would during a normal month. A christmas break or something could lead players into temptation and **** up a good run etc

But... nobody used to complain "in the old days"

No, you can't predict the weather far enough forward to have mid-season break.

    NO WAY

In English football, games over the festive period are traditional. But like somone above has said, a more structured approach would be much better. Why bother putting a midweek match between the xmas and new year games? There are plenty of other midweek opportunities throughout the season without having to congest them all into the busy silly season.

    No

When was teh last time we had a game postponed over the Christmas/New Year period?

The bad weather can come at anytime - you could have the break at this time but the weather be fine and then lose 2 or 3 games in Feb and have a right fixture pile up.

    RE: NO WAY

Don't normally play a midweek game between Boxing Day and the weekend - don't see why fixtures couldn't have been arranged for Christmas Eve this year instead with the option for clubs to move it to Friday night if they wanted to avoid clashing with the last shopping day.
