And that O2 cannot offer you anything extra as a customer of 8 years?

They're telling me that a new customer can get the same deal as me and I get nadda nowt.

Every year up to now I've had a better deal than the year before.

Basically to get it I've to take a cut in minutes, a cut in texts, pay £15/month more than before, and go on a longer contract!

    Ballax to them.

I had the same thing. o2 are generally amazing when it comes to keeping customers and offering the best upgrades to existing and not just new users. I think their hands are tied by Apple and they're unlikely to do much while the iPhones are pretty much running off the shelves. At least you can get one free now.

Not sure if they'll do the same when they upgrade this model, but apparently according to a couple of iPhone owners I know, who previously tied into an 18 month contract on the first generation model, when the current model was launched they were instantly offered an upgrade completely free as long as they renewed their contract.

I hope that happens again. It is without doubt the best gadget I've ever owned though, even though it has numerous shortcomings.

Most of the probs/failings in the 3G phone will be fixed when version 3.0 of the firmware comes out

You'll be able to send and receive pictures via MMS
You'll be able to cut and paste text from anywhere and paste in a text or email
You can cut pics from the internet or from the phone (that you've taken using camera for eg) and paste into texts and emails
You can search for content on the iPhone (contacts, texts, emails. apps etc) using a new search application

They're the major probs with the current version, all fixed in June with the new release...

Most of these are being sorted with the 3rd generation and I believe are about to be addressed on the current handset with a new software download, but these were the initial gripes.

-2mg camera without any autofocus, although I have taken some great pictures with it, many blur, there is also no flash on the camera, so no evening pictures.
-No MMS messaging, so you can't send pictures you've taken via text, there is an application to download that allows you to receive pictures but if you want to send them you have to prepay for bundles online through a third party via worldpay. ffs
-When on silent function, although it vibrates when the phone rings, it doesn't do anything when texts come through.
-Limited ring tones on the actual handset, I thought you'd automatically be able to use i-tunes on the handset to set ring tones, but you can't. However, there is a website that you can download free ones from and convert them to iTunes, a bit of a pain, but does the job.
    -No video function

It would be O2's decision not to sell it any cheaper, I'm pretty sure its illegal for a manufacturer to set a minimum price for retailers to sell at

okay, I take it all back, mine does too. It's just quite short and I've never actually noticed it when I'm walking about. So there you go, I'm a ****, but I don't think that was ever in question.

Not directly on the phone. You can't select a tune on the iPod and then just dedicate it as a ring tone. You have to specifically have a ring tone downloaded to iTunes don't you?
