Is it worth sending this to the football league or not?

I would like to make a complaint about the behaviour of Ryan Shawcross of stoke city for his behaviour during yesterday's match at Oakwell. Throughout the match he was deliberately inciting the home fans with gestures and comments hurled towards them from just on the pitch. If this had been a player who had just scored and was celebrating with his own fans he would most likely have been booked for encouraging the fans yet bizarrely when he was actually inciting the fans he was allowed to do so.

At one point he actually gave a 'come on then' gesture to the crowd actually inviting them to come on to the pitch and hit him which in my opinion is absolutely disgusting and the football league NEEDS to take action against him to protect their reputation as a sport trying to encourage safety and respect. It has been reported in the daily newspapers that this 'sportsman' (I use the term loosely) was spoken to by police regarding his behaviour after the game and if that isn't a clue as to how badly he behaved and how much he let down English football and you the football league then I really don't know what it.

Most likely the referee will not have mentioned any of this in his report because he completely ignored it on the day. Despite clearly seeing him he turned a blind eye for reasons only known to himself but I urge you to conduct an investigation into his behaviour just like you would had it been a televised match on sky involving two of the big teams.
This brings me on to Trevor Kettle who I am sure you will have read complaints about week after week for the last few years and if you have not then I suggest a quick search for his name on Google as it will show the same comments fromfans the length of the country. All are unhappy with his card happy performances (104 cards in 23 games), managers have complained about him several times and yet the football league allows him to continue in his job. Why? I would have expected my employer to have replaced me if I performed the way that Mr Kettle has on every occasion I have seen him.

Here's hoping that the Football League will take steps to protect its reputation and will investigate if not the referee's performance then at the very least the actions of Ryan Shawcross.

    You Would Probably Get Back..........

the usual copy and paste email, but I guess it's worth a go. I'd love to know how Davey makes a few comments about the Brizzle ref and gets fined. Yet Shawcross incites thousands of people, invites them to come on the pitch and yet the stupid police simply give him a "don't do it again" ticking off. He should have be arrested.

Which side of the pitch was that on? I don't remember seeing it (I guess it was in front of the west stand?)

Pfft, excuses excuses! I wonder if the FL email system could handle a whole BBS full of complaints? Obviously we'd need to proof read most of them so they make sense before sending them!

You and Eaststander could do the proof reading, I'd obviously not be very good at it.

If you mean is the letter of sufficient quality then yes

If you mean will it have any impact or be viewed as more than bleatings from an unimportant fan then no.

The FA is run for the FA and the premier league. Referee's are run ex referees like Keith Hackett, who has no interest in undermining current referees by publically chastising poor performances.

And there we have the problem. With the FA/FL and referee's it's all a big case of you scratch my back...

Nothing will ever change while clubs accept it, it's about time that teams got together and demanded change.

    ive just sent one

    Letter of Complaint
Re Barnsley FC v Stoke City FC Boxing Day 26 December 2007

It is with great regret that I have been so incensed to write this letter of complaint to the Football League.

For the sake of clarity and repetition (as I expect a number of other fans to have written a letter with similar content) I shall keep this letter concise.

The complaint is against two Stoke City players who were on the pitch at Oakwell on Boxing Day, namely Ryan Shawcross and Ricardo Fuller. The referee was Mr Trevor Kettle.

Ryan Shawcross incited the home fans by gesticulating and gesturing to individuals to come on to the field of play. He swore at a number of fans, when individual children were within earshot. Ricardo Fuller’s behaviour was of a similar nature and in addition to this he spat at the home supporters. Worse still, he made a gesture of a knife crossing his throat which was of a very aggressive and disturbing nature.

The Football League NEEDS to act on these individuals to maintain the reputation of the game.

The referee was extremely poor but I do not intend to raise this any further as I would expect you receive numerous complaints about this particular individual from fans, week in and week out. Mind bogglingly, he is still refereeing and presumably takes a wage from it?

It is not a matter of him being biased in my opinion – he refereed at Oakwell a few seasons ago when Barnsley played Rotherham and he was abysmal for the away side that day, allowing a goal to stand which did not go over the line and sending off 3 Rotherham staff. So, we shall just put this down to sheer ineptitude rather than and any ulterior motives.

However, you can and you must take action against the “professional footballers” aforementioned.

The two individuals have also been reported to the police.

I await your investigation and urgent response.

I would suggest keep the issue with the player and the ref seperate

Otherwise you come accross as just a bitter fan after a disapointing results.

I would just mention the disgraceful behaviour of the player

Personally, I thought the antics of a couple of Stoke players added to the atmosphere

It was all a bit dead in the first half, but once the Stoke players started making a few gestures it really livened up. Pulses started racing, passions were ignited and the atmosphere became electric. Great stuff.
