And if not who was worse, not counting players who only started a game or 2. And before you come back with the old "Dave Regis was worse" remember that Dave Regis scored one goal in only 4 starts for us and had a far better career strike rate then Oddy has.
RE: 5 in 64 is odejayis record conversley a fifth of his goals for Barnsley were against the Champions League runners up...!
Do you mean centre forward or goalscorer? The two don't have to be the same thing. Not saying he is good enough at this level or should necessarily start but he brings something different to the team when he plays. Unforyunatley we don't have a prolific goalscorer to play off him
RE: Do you mean centre forward or goalscorer? Oddi gets too much stick he isn't good enough end of it isn't his fault and it isn't through lack of trying hes just not good enough and its Davey's fault for persistantly playing him!
as soon as hes made a mistake in a game he hides from the ball yesterday he chose midfield as his location to hide for some reason
Based on ability There's been plenty who have been worse, especially in our Fourth Division days. However, if judged on a goals per games ratio, then I'd have to say I can't think of anyone who comes within a country mile of his pitiful return.
I think he's the worst that has had a prolonged run in the team.............If Davey's scouting network is so good how come we haven't snapped up a target man currently in the reserves from a prem team......a la Aylott? (chinny)
RE: Do you mean centre forward or goalscorer? His strike rate is abysmal even as a "Heskey" type centre forward but how many assists has he to his name? Can't remember too many. It is the fault of the management though not Oddy himself.
Exactly, there must be somebody out there who can do us a job. We have got NIL in 10 of our 21 league games this season and it's just not good enough.
It is down to opinions though He has had some poor games for Barnsley but his misses tend do xloud judgement. Two examples for me are Wembley and Burnley. Missed two sitters (although I still think none of our other strikers would even have got in that position) but then everyone says he had a nightmare game. IMHO he had a decent game in both matches. at Wembley he was far more effective than Ferenczi. Against Burnley he set Macken up with a great flick on for the biggest sitter of the season which he missed. He provided an outlet and as soon as he was knackered and had ceased to become effective Burnely ran us ragged as we had no outlet to hold the ball up. I didn't go to Preston the week before but I understand he had a good game. The problem with Odejayi for me is that he takes an unfair amount of criticism. He misses sitters and should rightly get stick for that but people then chose to belittle the things he has done well which undermines their argument. The reality is for me is that none of our strikers score goals so it comes down to who adds most to the team. As for him hiding after missing a chance I don't really blame him with the abuse he gets, usually before he's even stepped on the pitch. There are other players I don't think are good enough at this level in the team but I try and be objective each game and look at the positives they bring
To be fair the whole team miss sitters so its hard to have any assists Prime example was Macken's against Burnley. Fantastic piece of play from Odejayi and Macken should have scored
But at least Macken managed to score against Burnley He's also our top scorer and has got a number of assists to his name, too. Odejayi has had plenty of opportunities to be successful at this level since the beginning of last season and has failed to deliver on both the number of goals scored and assists. This is usually what any striker will be judged upon.
