A lot of people here are very confident indeed that AR will not be leaving the club to join Sheff Wed. I'm not so sure. The facts - we know Sheff Wed want Andy as manager, but GS doesn't want him to leave. Hence, contract discussions that only last week were not the top priority have kicked in the very next day. Speculation - I would surmise that somehow, AR will have been given an idea of what kind of contract and backing he might get from Sheff Wed. Football tends to work like that. Therefore, the way I see it, he now has two choices - sign a new contract with the Reds, or resign and hold discussions with Weds. Andy has to base his decision on a number of factors, however I would suggest that in terms of money offered and potential backing for squad strengthening, we cannot compete with them. The only thing I see in our favour is that Dave Allen has a reputation of being very difficult to work with and even harder to please. Anyone else have anything else to add to this evaluation? I really don't think it is clear cut yet... Edited with another thought - the quotes about Ritchie being so flattered about the approach do not fill me with confidence either... at the very least it is praise of Sheff Wed at a time when someone else has knocked them back for him
I’m not sure whether he will stay or go but I think we shouldn’t jump to any conclusions. As far as I’m aware, all they have done is request permission to speak to him, they haven’t offered him the job yet, so I doubt that he knows what sort of a deal he would get from them. They have also expressed a desire to speak to several others so it isn’t cut and dried yet. I suppose that one thing that those who will be devastated if he goes should be worrying about, is the fact that Shepherd has denied them permission to speak to him. That suggests that Shepherd is scared that he would go, which doesn’t say much for the rapport between the two of them. Personally, I think it is a mistake to not allow Ritchie to speak to them, it shows a lack of trust which Ritchie could be disappointed in and therefore may change his attitude towards our club. From the point of view of the ones amongst us who wouldn’t be too upset if Ritchie were to leave, there are questions that they should be asking themselves. Who would we like to replace him? Who would we get to replace him? Would he take Holden with him? Would Shepherd take the cheap option again and offer the job to Holden? If he did, would that be a good thing or a bad thing.
He will go and whats more I hope he does! If we had appointed a new manager in the summer and were in the same position everybody would be calling for his blood already. Ritchie is surviving on past glory not on his present performance! Promotion was achieved by luck in a league were a team had only to be average to be promotion candidates and the addition of Togwell and MacIndoe and loss of McPhail and Burns maintained our position as an above average League 1 side with no hope of competing in the Championship. Even last season many on here were mistified by some of Ritchies substitutions and the trend has continued this season. Ritchie is being found out for what he is - a mediocre manager. If he stays then we will slide into oblivion! ProphetOfDoom!(RIP)
stay. i dont think AR is an amazing manager, but in reality, like our young players, he is still learning too... he's gonna get better and hopefully make fewer mistakes as time goes on. this was always going to be a tough season, we had a false sense of security after the dizzy heights of the first few games, but as tinatykes tag says, 4th from bottom will do. and i agree with her. hopefully this has been our rocky patch, exposed our weaknesses, so they can be dealt with early, rather than later... we have a good young team who could do with a bit of experience to steady them, but even without stregthening the team we're still better than 5 or 6 clubs in this division. any thougts on 1 old man up front and one in defence who would be willing to make a move and could do the job for us?
i agree with a lot of what you say but who are these 5/6 clubs? i think hull, sheff w are worse and after that i am struggling.
If he gets the chance to go then i think he will. As would anyone else on this board if someone came along offering a shitload more money for doing a similar job to the one they are currently doing.
RE: If he gets the chance to go yeah, everyone has their price eventually i guess, but by the same token, someone is only worth either what you think they are worth or what you can afford to pay.
I'm at a loss as to why there's such a debate at this time but if the hypothetical pigsty contract ends up at AR's door then I suspect It'll have been turned down by many. If its a considerable increase with money to spend then he may be off.
Its a considerable distance from wanting to talk to someone (one of many) about a job to offering and them accepting.

Washday may be in debt But their next manager, whoever he may be, will be paid considerably more than ours is.
bloody hell where would you get an idea like that from???!!!??? AR knows what the financial difference is between the jobs, he will make a decision accordingly. I personally have come to believe that is all that matters.
