Never underestimate the importance of luck in any teams' success or otherwise. What Davey didn't have was the rub of the green whereas Robins has had some good luck. We were lucky to get a point against a slightly better Swansea City team. Against Burnley things went our way, the injury to their gaolie unsettled them and Preece did a fine job for us being in the right place at the right time. Nothing wrong with getting some luck (long overdue I reckon) but lets not laud too many plaudits on the new mangament - the challenges for them will come when things are not going well for us. Cheers.
For a long time I thought that Simon Davey was very unlucky..... ......but after a while too much bad luck stops being a co-incidence. Agree completely that you make your own luck. Against Liverpool and Chelsea we were brave and determined, and the rub of the green fell with us. However, this was the exception rather than the rule, and too many times from what I saw under Davey in the games where we were "unlucky" we had also played with too much fear, too much repect for the opposition or just plain negatively.
Luck doesnt take away the fact that Davey was a crap manager. I dont think its down to luck that Robins has already spotted that our defence isn't good enough, we need a left footed left back and that Oddjob is nowhere near good enough for this league.
100% spot on ........... ........... and he's not afraid to give one or two a kick up the arse, and it's worked
Davey had more luck than anyone To perform so badly in a well paid job and keep it for three years takes some fecking doing What's lucky about a keeper playing well or an opposition player getting injured? Jesus H Christ.
On the flip side... ...you saw how well Hume and Macken played on Tuesday night. Maybe a full season of those two up front would've made a difference? Davey was unlucky that the biggest signing of his tenure was unavailable for the majority of the season.
Is good luck more inportant than good management? When a team wins we congratulate the manager on the team selection on team tactics etc. We complain about these when the team loses. Games are won or lost on chance happenings, on good or bad luck. Refereeing decisions often seem arbitary - a player slips and a goal is scored - a shot sneaks in by the post, 2 inches wider and it would have been a miss. This element of luck is important in all divisions - e.g. a referee plays 8 minutes extra time a team scores at the end of this period etc. The point I am making is that a game is won or lost, not on managerial skill or otherwise - the main reason why games end as they do is because of chance happenings or luck. Thanks.
RE: "I do not want a good General, I want a lucky one". Napoleon nt agree! (I thought those words were attributed to Chrchill - maybe not)
Make your own luck by pressurizing the opposing team into making mistakes ,happened against Swansea and we failed to capitalize on their mistakes. every time we push up "lucky" breaks happen. Need to practice free kicks though.
That is your opinion, it is not a fact. According to you, the main reason the likes of Shankly, Revie, Stein, Ramsey, Clough, Nicholson, Robson, Busby, Paisley, Ferguson, Wenger, Mourinho etc. were/are better than the likes of McSeveney, Iley, Parkin, Hodges & Davey is merely chance and luck. This is only my opinion, but I think you're wrong.
