It's helped by the fact that there's only half a dozen of us in the country on broadband. Not much contention for bandwidth, see.

When I was there everyone was with Free and running at 10Mb.</p>

If you were out in the sticks you weren't so lucky however.</p>

Out in the sticks doesn't begin to cover it. We'd need an airport, a motorway and a shopping centre just to upgrade us to "the middle of nowhere".

 

Just up the Valley from Grenoble,

we had 2Mb , in Grenoble itself Free had 10+ going.

I'm only joking really. France is very committed to rolling out broadband as you know and although we've only got 1Mb now we really are in the middle of nowhere - we're 8.5km from the exchange and there's only 500 subscribers on the exchange anyway so it's a miracle we've got it at all. It's certainly not making France Telecom any money. And they're talking about upping the speeds considerably next year. I heard that 20Mb+ is becoming quite widespread - 24Mb was common when I was in Sweden and I wouldn't mind a bit of that!
