witholding a portion of your Council Tax that goes towards services you do not believe you are receiving to a good enough standard?

I could be wrong but I'm sure I read that somebody had successfully challenged their council in court re: a portion of their council tax but there were several cavets to the case and it was fairly complex. It was a while ago so I could have it completely wrong.

    But with all due respec'

That's your choice to live on that road. You could move to a cheaper banding and have a nice shiny tarmac and the same bin service

RE: But with all due respec'

But with respect it's not down to the cauncil tax payer to move to get a half decent service for what they pay. Most of us pay a fecking small fortune in council tax and we should get an appropriate level of service no matter where we live. This banding amazes me too - it costs more to empty the bins and light the streets in area b compared to area c :((

No but he chooses to pay more for the same *****

Houses in a more expensive banding are likely to be detached and further from their neighbours so you could argue a greater expense per property in collecting bins in less densely populated areas. On the other hand, some of the poorer areas present health risks in terms of discarded needles and empty pop tart packets so you could say that they should pay the same, or even more for the dirtiest and grubbiest streets.

But you made an incorrect assumption

I live in a 3 bed semi - we have to put the bins in the street or they dont get emptied- to empty the bins in our road takes no longer than it would to do the same number of bins on an nice shiny tarmac road in a "cheaper" area.

Council dont have to maintain our road or sweep it - in fact it costs us money to fill in the holes made by for example dustbin lorries.

And they rioted against the Poll Tax..

Should all be replaced by income tax and distributed to councils on a per capita basis.</p>

Take as much responsibility as is possible for raising revenues away from local councils, they get mental on the power.
