When we are defending a corner. Is it to stop the opposition putting as many players in our half ? or is it to hope we get a break away leaving 3 against 3 ? Whatever reason it dunt seem to be working (doh) (doh) (doh)
I like it At times we never used to leave anyone out - and that meant it just kept pinging back. Leaving three players with so much pace (and lets face it they don't offer much in the way of size to defend), means the opposition really has to think.
Its so they have to have 3/4 players up the pitch and away from the 18 yard box. Ive noticed this a lot this season and Davey has said hes been doing it most of the season. Ive seen it in all/most of the games i have seen this season.
I think it's a great tactic And it worked a treat at Hillsborough when we scored with a break away goal that won us the game. Some people will complain at ******* anything.
agreed and as well as giving a greater chance of an effective counter attack it gives the keeper clearer sight of the cross and should improve the odds of him dealing with it if in his reach. Ive never understood why all the team often defended corners
it worked perfectly on Tuesday............. when Brum got a corner near the end they didn't know quite where to go as we had the 3 up front-good tacticsIMHO
As everyone else says Great idea for all the reasons mentioned For me the biggest plus is it gives us a good chance of the ball staying cleared if headed out - if there is no one up its bound to come straight back.
RE: I think it's a great tactic Agreed....keeps 3 or 4 opposition players bout of the area and gives an outlet for a break. Unlike when we used to pull everyone back and then when we managed to clear from a corner it would come back at us. People complained before when we didn't leave someone in midfield!
its a good tactic if we get the ball straight out. (i.e. if Muller doesn't catch it, wait 10 seconds, bounce it, shrug someone off, then hoof it out of play)
It's a good tactic, but we don't do it every game ....... ........ in fact I bet you can count on two hands the games we have done it, maybe even on one hand, so this ****** about we've done it all season is just a complete lie
RE: It's a good tactic, but we don't do it every game ....... We've done it since Wednesday away in some matches. Wednesday was the first time I saw three left up anyway.
McIndoe McIndoe was excellent at picking up and then holding onto the loose ball from a cleared corner. I like the idea of leaving at least 2 players near halfway from corners / freekicks. Especially when it's the midgets. Probably the only decent tactic the clown Davey has.
Correct ....... ........ but SD was asked about it after that match and said ........"we've done it all season" ..... er, I don't think so (doh)
