I watched the news last night on ITN and saw this interview with a friend of the pilot who killed the British soldier Matty Hull in the so called "friendly fire incident"
Got to say it absolutly astounded me and wonder if this is typical of what the Americans think of us.
I'm pretty sure it's close to what George Dubya thinks of us.

    A little story...

When i did a 4 month tour in the gulf about 7 years back, me and some of the lads were laikin footy on the 5 a-side pitch with rolling subs, 1 of my good mates at the time sat next to two yank lasses on the bench at the side and was passing coversation with them.
At this point a big coloured geezer came over to them and told the girls to come away and not speak to my mate andy, cos get this, he could be a SPY!!!
I have never known such utter nonsense in my life, meant to be a coalition, that incident was 1 of many.
Bear in mind that were all on a saudi air base 7 mile inside the wire.
I just thought what a complete, ignorant, paranoid numpty!!! A lot of yanks really don't have a clue!!! (banghead)

Representive of many Americans but by no means all Americans. Perhaps more surprising coming from a Vietnam vet but I guess not even those involved in a disasterous war such as that learn the lessons of history.

Of course the pilot is 'one of them' its oprobably a close nit place and the idea of a UK news crew coming over brought out the defensiveness in him. So perhaps not all that surprising.

It's one ignorant persons comment, just as you get ignorant comments from Britons about Americans.

Why do people seem to think that 1 persons comments speak for everyone.

I agree with Eaststander, all the Yanks I've met have been OK,and very Brit friendly, one (apparently well educated) ignoramus doesn't speak for everyone, and perhaps the guy misguidedly, thought attack was the best way to defend his friend.Friendly fire incidents happen in all conflicts, our own forces have done them too, this one seems a catalogue of mistakes, with pilots a little too free on the trigger, but our own government opted for a cheaper friend or foe ID system, thats not totally compatible with what the US has,I don't know if it would have helped in this tragic case, but HM Govt may be partially to blame, attempted cover-ups though are indefensible when families need to know the truth.

had it been the other way round and our "friendly" fire had killed one of theirs....

you can bet the inquiry would have been higher profile...and our lad woulda been branded all kinds of murderer by them .

If we (America) didn't enter the II World War in 1942 you would have been speaking German

    Answer
If we (Britain) wouldn't have entered the II World War in 1939 - YOU !!! would have been speaking German

A united Europe, combining the intelligence of the British coupled with rocket and nuclear science of the Germans and a united Europe would have wiped the floor with North America

In saying that - probably a single bombing raid over New York and they would have surrended anyway

    Opinion of vietnam veteran?

Needs reminding of one inescapable fact. Only recent war they fought without us and THEY LOST. such arrogance led them to think they could prop up a puppet regime by force 1000's of mile away, when it wasn't any of their business. What was that about those not learning from history being condemmed to repeat it

    My Father in Law.............................................................

Voluntered to fight the Nazis in 1942 when he was a slip of a lad of 17. He joined the Royal Marines and saw action around the World. He served on the Rodney, Prince of Wales and the Duke of York.

He never said much about his War experiences but incidents like the Falkland Campaign brought him to tears. He would just sit there with out saying a word. I remember watching an old American War film with him when the brave Yanks were using flame throwers, he turned to me and said "burning fleash once you've smelt it you never forget".

He also told me a story about Italy when his squadron, or what ever they called them, had to place themselves between the Sea and the Americans to stop them running from the Italians. He used to laugh at the Yanks, who had never fired a shot in anger, when they turned up with more medals than Monty.

He had a very low opinion of the Yanks and Italians, and had a very high regard for the ordinary German soldier.

His experiences with the Yanks led me to the conclusion that they were poor soldiers and nothing I have seen or heard has changed my opinion. I've meet quite a few Yanks off the air bases in Norfolk and Suffolk and they were scary to say the least. They got medals for having a ****.

Blair and the MOD are just scum for the way they have treated the families of the dead who they sent to War.
