Gally confirmed that it did happen but he did stress it was only a few supporters. It is briefly discussed in this thread from post #22 onwards. http://v2.barnsleyfc.org.uk/showthread.php?177440-125-Shirt-Anyone-fancy-one/page2&p=1201233
When the stories first circulated the figures mentioned were 3-400 fans got in cheap. Gally spoke to the club directly, who advised it was around a dozen. So definitely true, but on a much smaller scale than initially feared.
I'm sure they would say that! And to be honest, it makes them look worse! Instead of having to have hundereds of pounds, they couldn't muster up £24?!
I was fuming about it when I heard, and made a lengthy post on Facebook about it, which Gally followed up for me. I have a lot of scepticism about many things going on at the club, but Gally took the time to follow up and he got a direct response, so I can either accept this or basically accuse the Club of directly lying to Gally/The Supporters Trust. I chose the former option, and even if I felt otherwise I can't disprove anything. I think the club are inept in many aspects of their operations, and I've said as much on here on many occasions, but I don't believe that they're downright liars when responding to a direct question of this kind.
I think the events of Saturday are completely unacceptable whether it was a dozen fans or a thousand who got in cheap. There must have been programme sellers and half time draw sellers close by who could have changed a few tenners. When you are charging £28 to get I wouldn't have considered it unlikely that most fans paying on the day would pay with three ten pound notes.
