Just watched the full match. It was a weird game. First half was a bit scrappy but with a few flashes of nice football from us. We got really lucky with the first goal, Kitching miscued his pass totally and wrong footed the defence. Second half we were under the cosh then the injury and the sending off totally did a reset on the game and we coasted through the remainder despite a couple of close calls on their disallowed goals. I've got to say I still find Thomas and Aitchison frustrating. Thomas works hard and carries the ball well but his end product isn't there and Aitchison can play but, again doesn't do enough for me. I thought Kane started well but got quiet but, when up to fitness a central midfield three of Connell, Kane and Benson looks good. Anyway, well happy with three points from that and delighted with our position after a fifth of the season.
If we'd been on the end of that match there's no way we would have felt we warranted a 0-3. The breaks went for us today, take them when they come cos there's plenty of times they don't fall right for us!
Isn't it refreshing to listen to a after match interview and think that's exactly as I had seen it instead of the waffle and blah blah blah we had to put up with last season.
We rode our luck yesterday, not least of which was the sending off. Totally changed the game just at the point where Cambridge were pressing hard and an equalizer was coming. Our lads rolled their sleeves up and theirs probably thought they were going to get an easy ride. On the sending off, the first booking was fair enough but George Williams should have got a card as well, he started it by almost kicking Kitching's head off as he went down. The second was soft to say the least.
I thought it was indifferent aswell' scrappy at times' rode our luck a little but got the win' i thought the introduction of Norwood made a huge difference.
He's got his head screwed firmly on. We and the game were scrappy until we scored, then we were verging on poor until the sending off and then we were very, very good from the sending off on. Much credit to MD for his reaction to the sending off - bringing on Benson and Norwood who were both very good, getting all the team together while Collins was getting treated and sorting things out and most of all for keeping two up front and a positive attitude after the sending off.
Yes For once we took our chances Cambridge didn’t. Until the sending off I thought they were probably slightly better than us. Afterwards we ran the game. Could have been a lot different if they had scored with one of their 3 great first half chances
Good summary that, my exact thoughts on 2 of our front 3, they work hard but still need to improve on their end products. Norwood might end up replacing aitchinson in the side? Good options centre midfield, could probably have the best in the league with Connell, kane and Benson.
Phillips as back up in midfield too. Great goals and assists record at this level last season for Morecambe.
