It was my opinion

That the criticism on this forum after the Fleetwood game was unwarranted and over the top, particularly considering how well we'd played in other games recently. While I didn't agree with a lot of the criticism during the poor run, I could certainly understand it and see that it was justified. I didn't think the reaction to the Fleetwood game was.

On Saturday I had a fantastic day away to Shrewsbury. At half time I spoke to someone who has been a member of this forum for years, but no longer posts. He goes to just about every game home and away and I've known who is for years, but I've never spoken to him before, so I finally got round to introducing myself. We talked about this and that and he explained he no longer posts because of the same old people posting the same old stuff over and over again, but he didn't mention any names. I thought this was a real shame as I always enjoyed reading his point of view, particularly as I knew he went to all the games.

On Sunday morning, still half pissed but half hungover, I made a post addressing these two points. I put about as much thought in to it as my morning fart. It's a bit provocative, but I've posted much, much worse that has provoked no reaction at all. I wasn't attempting to elicit a reaction and I didn't think I'd get one. Just blowing off steam as many of us do on this forum. No grand plan, just a load of ballacks.

I didn't particularly have anyone in mind when I made the post. It was the volume of criticism to the Fleetwood game from many sources that surprised me, not any one individual or group of individuals who I thought were particularly incessant with their criticism. The guy on Saturday isn't the first person to say to me this season that he no longer posts because a small minority are continually negative. I've heard it a lot. However, individual names are rarely if ever mentioned. If you can identify yourself from such a description then maybe they and I are talking about you, but I had no specific names in mind when I made the post. Someone that certainly wasn't on my mind was Dr Zazlos. I don't read a lot of his posts. I hadn't read any criticism from Dr Zazlos of the Fleetwood game. Maybe he was critical, maybe he wasn't, I don't know, but I hadn't read any. Actually, the last couple of posts of his I have read on Barnsley performances were complimentary to both the team and the manager. Whatever you may think, I wasn't addressing Dr Zazlos.

Whether you like me or not, agree with my posts or not, I believe I've been open and honest on this forum for long enough to have earned the right to be taken at my word.

A couple of months ago (ish) I made the decision to no longer reply to the posts of Dr Zazlos. I didn't agree with his point of view so there seemed little point in getting in another argument. I believe I've stuck rigidly to that and haven't engaged with him at all during that time. If you would like to check on that, you can click my name, then forum posts and read what I've posted over the last couple of months. I wouldn't recommend it like, it'll bore you stupid. Should you decide to do that, you will also see how many times per week or even per day that Dr Zazlos responds to me. Is the majority of that a response to my point, or simply to provoke me? At one point he was starting threads with my name when I was away on holiday. Is that the kind of thing this forum is for?

I've made no secret about the fact that I suffer from mental health issues. I've posted about it a number of times over the years and maybe even given others some decent advice. I hope so. If I go out on a bender like I did on Saturday I suffer for it greatly over the following days. Alcohol is a depressant and it knocks me in to a depression for quite a long period after. I shouldn't really do it, but sometimes the highs are worth the lows. The reason I haven't been posting isn't because I'm hiding, it's not because I'm embarrassed by one slightly provocative post, it's not because I'm rubbing my hands with glee that my great Machiavellian plan has come to fruition, it's not because I'm laughing at anyone, it's because I feel ******* horrendous at the moment and I'm just trying to get through the days. The last thing I want to do is deal with any of this ****. I don't tell you this in order to gain sympathy, I really, really don't want any, but don't you think all this has been blown out of all proportion, that it doesn't matter in the ******* slightest, that there are far more important things in life and that maybe you should get back to using this forum for what it's always been best at: having a laugh.

Fair enough. Speaks volumes that even Jay can see DrZ wasn't even critical after the Fleetwood game.

Don't worry about it mate, you have done nothing wrong, in writing what you wrote,you mentioned no names and singled no one out.personally I wouldn't have banned zazlos his posts of late have had more balance than usual negative ***** that had gone before,however contrary to what his supporters are claiming he was still hijacking threads with his piss poor jonno, mansford, all things bfc baiting double act with the reeve.

 

Internet bulletin boards are not good places for depression if you decide to engage in arguments or hang around when Barnsley are doing badly. I'd advise avoiding inflammatory posts altogether and just reading when we are doing well

 

And those people who stopped posting, well that's their choice. Certain people annoy me on here, and have done in the past, but I just ignore them.

Like monkeytennis says, his posts had more balance, he behaved himself and should be allowed back on.

Brave words Jay, but you really shouldn't have to justify your post from the other day. If drink prompts you to write like that, then have one on me! It was eloquent, measured and right on the money, and didn't, despite suggestions from more than a few folk, target any particular one (or two) individuals. The bans were out of the blue and perhaps an overreaction, but that's Gally's prerogative. He's pumped some serious coin into this and previous incarnations of the BBS, so it's absolutely his right to deal with an issue how he sees fit.

On the upside though, its stopped the full ponty from posting, so there's a lot to be thankful for.
