Starting the match last night. At times he looked a little ring rusty, quite understandable, but still looked the class player he is. He's been a huge miss this campaign and if he can regain match fitness, he'll be like a quality new signing.
The only way I think we will be in the promotion race is for Luca to be back to his best. It will take some time. Good to just see him on the park at the moment. I was over critical of our performance last night, to some extent, as I was a bit drunk, but we have too many players who are not running their blood to water, not anywhere near. Collins needs to address this.
Moving the ball quickly and accurately. Usually, he's so impressive and there was the odd occasion it didn't work. But I'm nit picking. The fact that he was out there made me so happy.
I know we were playing a team from the 7th tier, but we just looked brighter with him in midfield. We looked more progressive and willing to get forward more. It was no coincidence that we let them into the game a bit more when Connell inevitably tired. Yoganathan gave us a bit more energy when he came on, albeit he's obviously a bit raw.
Hopefully our attacks will be less predictable and more varied with Luca helping to pull the strings.
Not having seen the game due to being out of the country and not having a pesky VPN, I'm pleased to read your post as I was wondering how Luca played. Hopefully now he'll kick on, regain full fitness and get back to performances like last season.
Can't wait for him to be back in the first team ripping the league apart! But I'm prepared to be patient, the worst thing would be him being out of action again if doing too much too soon.
As soon as luca is playing every game he should be captain...Williams isn't good enough to start in the first 11
Sorry but no. Connell needs the free spirit thing to play at his best. Burdening him with being captain would kill that. Best captain was probably Redfearn, someone with authority. Connell doesn't have that, he just needs to be allowed to play.
I agree. Just let Luca do his thing. The club captain does not need to play every game anyway. Bobby was club captain & rarely played.
For someone without authority, he does a pretty good impression of someone shouting, pointing, encouraging his team-mates and directing play from midfield. He's always done it, including the entire time he was on the pitch on Tuesday. He was the obvious, natural choice for captain after Mads left. Handing it to Kitching just as his head was being turned with transfer talk pretty much finished him at Oakwell.
