ive been to hospital to day,(Oh its nowt serious,i may die from it,but its not serious)now going in the Ambulance with me from IMMINGHAM,was a Mr LORD 85 years old........now i told him of the time i had a friend from Barnsley,a Bernard Lord from Mapplewell..now i tried to find him on the Phone, but sadly he has passed away.....now i met Bernard after 1954,we both worked on tracky, then i left and went to work for a haulage frim and bernard was there too,and we spent many hours ,days, months working to gether, this went on for 5 or 6 years,we never ever talked about the ARMY..until one day,we were both taking out crop cpal to the Screens at DARTON...as i arrived saw a large queue of trucks, the screens had broken down.....mow all the driver made for the workmens hut a nice fire burning,ETC,and Bernard was telling other drivers of his time in the Army in Hong Kong,..i never said owt ,but later when were on our own i said what unit were you in,he said the RE,s,56 squadron, atroop...do you know the ship that i went home on in 1950,was the ship that took him to my Bed space ,the truck i left,he replaced me in 1950.and we did not know till that day in the 1960,s you never know who your are talking to,do you.........

    Although I don't know anyone

personally who fought for us, my Grandads both worked down the pit so weren't allowed to join the services, I have always been interested and have joined the Parade to the Local Cenotaph.

I went to Eden Camp with my family when we were on holiday the other year and was in tears. Also 2 years ago when I was at junior school, our choir(I was in it) went to sing at the Remembrance Service at St Mary's Church in Barnsley.

It was very moving being picked to sing infront of so many special people.

Again many thanks to All you fought, lived and died for us.

"They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
    We will remember them."
