....that England will be hosting 2 World Cups, one in 2012 for Rugby League & one in 2015 for Union.

The League announcement has been hidden in the Rugby League pages of BBC sport while the announcement for Union is 'breaking news' on their website.

Any idea why there's such a massive difference in coverage?

Because Union is still the sport of the establishment.

It's all about wearing a blazer and the right tie.

The League World cup is much smaller scale due to the number of participating nations who actually have half a chance of winning. Its basically down to Australia, New Zealand and England. Home nation chances are severely diminished because we have to field England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales sides simply so the tournament has enough competing teams. Its all a bit of a joke really, whereas the Rugby Union World cup is a genuinely competitive tournament with teams from across the Globe.

Or the fact rugby union is more popular maybe?

At International level that's for sure.

The league announcment was front page headline on bbc.co.uk earlier today....

And is still high up on the front of the sports page

As said though the Union world cup is a significantly bigger tournament than the League one

Club level they are similar levels of support though

RE: Or the fact rugby union is more popular maybe?

Of course it's more popular - it's been pushed and promoted by the establishment ever since the Northern Union broke away.

And that same establishment has done its damnedest to squash League even though its a better spectacle.

It is and always has been a class thing.

The blame for the decline in popularity of RL has to fall on Sky and the greed of the clubs

When I was kid and didn't go to away matches I used to watch the RL on a Saturday afternoon as did many others I expect

I couldn't name a single RL player nowadays (unless the Paul brothers are still going)

I don't think it's declined that much in recent times - crowds haven't dwindled any more than football crowds.

And Robbie Paul is still around - not so sure about Henry.

Rugby League has a very narrow fanbase

Given that outside of parts of West Yorkshire/Lancs/Cheshire hardly anyone plays or follows it.

Union is predominantly southern but even so more spread around the country and having the 6 nations every year sustains a higher level of interest.

Nothing to do with class or anything like that.

Everything to do with class if you look at the history and realise why League has such a narrow fanbase.

There's never been a level playing field. League has never been given a fair chance.

Christ Almighty this board is littered with spelling errors but who gives a flying ****? It's a football message board.

Is THERE any need to pull someone up on THEIR spelling?
