Manchester United are current leaders of the Premiership Reserve League Northern section. Wigan manager Paul Jewell invited Flinders to train with his players this week. He wants to add a younger 'keeper to his squad in the summer, with John Filan now aged 36 and Mike Pollitt aged 34. In Pollitt's absence at the moment, goalkeeping coach Gary Walsh is having to provide cover from the bench. Current valuation for 19-year-old Flinders is reckoned to be around the £1m mark. Chelsea have also shown an interest in him. Flinders was due back at Oakwell today and will continue as understudy to Barnsley's Nick Colgan in Saturday's League One fixture at Hartlepool. </div>
The irony in the final line. Valued at £1m...will continue to understudy Nick fecking Colgan. Who is obviously being touted around by his agent already
2 words highlighted... flawless and outstanding... of which you can't always call colgan... Get him in the side NOW, his value WILL increase. Like I said a few days ago, the club are only after money, thats is nailed on. Colgan out of contract at EOS, and then we have no keeper.. BRILLIANT!
Should sell for £1M If we could get a million for Flinders we should take it. I don't think we can afford to turn down that sort of money for a sub-keeper. If we can sign Colgan up to a four year contract, and get £1M + a decent sell on clause it would be a good deal all round. Flinders would get a chance in the Premier League and the club would be able to bring in five or six good players with the money. It's a bit like the Burns situation - can you stand in the players way if he wants to leave to further his career?
RE: 2 words highlighted... theres no point dropping colgan now though coz he's be outstanding all season for us. theres no point changes especially at this point of the season.
Colgan Colgan has improved no end this season and to me justifies keeping Flinders out.Ritchie will have a plan in the summer to get a keeper, could even be Colgan if he stays. Getting £1m for Flinders would be an excellent deal for us, then we can strengthen other parts of the side. To me if we keep Colgan and get a young understudy for him, we will be fine. I for one hope we off load Flinders and lets get out of this toilet pan of a league.
