"Death sentence, life sentence" - is this proposed for any offence or did you have something more specific in mind?
Why not boil in oil, or drawing and quatering? Do you ever consider the affect of carrying out Capital Punishment on the executioner, prison warders, priests, etc? They usually have psychological problems for years afterwards an execution.
fair point, but how do you think the same people feel at the moment, having to pamper some of the sick individuals that occupy our prisons for a short amount of time before going out and doing the same thing again or worse. Under staffed, over crowded, under protected and powerless. Stress in these services has rocketed over the last 15-20 years and I don't think it's just a coincidence.
Fair points too mate. Do you work at Parkhurst? A mate of mine works at Wakefield High Sec. I had a facination with Death by Hanging when I was a bit younger.I read every book I could lay my hands on about executioners, Burke, Roberts, Pierrpoint, ect. One common theme going back to the 1700's was how many Executioners relied on alcohol. This led to lots of Death by Strangulation and Decapitation when the executioner was too drunk to dispatch the prisoner correctly. A lot of Victorian Executioners ended up as alcoholics and died as a result of that.
No I don't work in the service but do have links. Your point is a much more interesting argument then the human rights one though.
My point being that I'd have more sympathy with the person having to carry out an execution then I would with the criminal. It's all very well to say "ooooh me please, I'll do it", but you have to be capable of such an act in the first place. I've said it myself, but when it came to the crunch, who knows what the impact would be on me in the long term.
RE: What's your link ? Do they call them 'wings' and 'cells' still? I thought they'd been bought out by Holiday Inn and had names like the Nightingale Suite.
Welcome to Parkhurst Sir We've put you in the King George Suite - do let us know if you need a fresh bucket to **** in. Had any good escapes in recent years ? I remember from my schooldays when a couple of nutters legged it from Broadmoor, and we lived a couple of miles away from there, that were properly exciting
RE: Welcome to Parkhurst Sir When those 3 escaped many years ago and it led to the downgrading of Parkhurst, I looked out the window of the house to see torches and stuff in our garden. I went out to see loads of Police walking about and asked what was going on. The response was: "nothing to worry about sir, just go back indoors" excellent, it wasn't until the next day that it was announced. I'm not sure if that was sound advice on reflection.
Good advice from the Rozzer "Oh, and you might like to lock your doors and windows Sir" What categories are the IOW prisons now ?
