It's just a theory but it raises an interesting question.

It is understood West Yorkshire Police - who have not commented on reports about the veil theory - regard it only as one of a number of possibilities.

The wanted man, Mustaf Jamma, is the brother of Yusuf Jamma who was found guilty of the Pc's murder this week.

Mustaf Jamma is believed to be in his native Somalia.

The 26-year-old was released from jail six months before Pc Beshenivsky was killed.

    Borders 'non-existent'

Shadow home secretary David Davies said the fact that anyone could be allowed through passport control wearing a veil was "barely credible".

"Doing so when an All Persons Bulletin for murder has been issued demonstrates that our borders are not just porous but non-existent," he added.

Some newspaper reports have suggested Mr Jamma stole his sister's passport and wore a full niqab (a veil that totally obscures the face) to evade checks at Heathrow airport between Christmas Day last year and New Year's Day.

A BAA Heathrow spokesman told The Times immigration control staff always did visual checks on people coming into the country but added only random checks were made on outgoing passengers.

On Tuesday the jury in the trial of four men over Pc Beshenivsky's death was discharged after failing to reach a verdict on a final count of robbery.

Three men have been found guilty of killing the officer, who was shot after an armed raid in Bradford in 2005. Another man had earlier admitted murder.

The jury could not decide if Raza Ul-Haq Aslam, 25 - who was cleared of murder, manslaughter and firearms offences - was guilty of robbery, and a re-trial was ordered.

As well as Mustaf Jamma another man called Piran Ditta Khan, whom the prosecution alleged was the "architect of the robbery", remains on the run from police.

Pc Beshenivsky, 38, was shot and killed on 18 November 2005 as she arrived at the Universal Express travel agents in Bradford city centre on the day of her youngest daughter's fourth birthday.

Her colleague Pc Teresa Milburn was also shot in the street as the robbers escaped with about £5,000.

so he could have just got on plane dressed as a fish too ! less likely but far more cunning

It certainly does, the cops knew the suspects were likely

to flee the country so why not extra security checks. You can hop ona ferry or get the chunnel with the barest of checks.

Sohe probably wouldn't need to go to all that trouble, to continue the fish line, the veil theory could well be a red herring.

They have no idea how he got away

though the "popular" press have basically taken the veil theory to be a fact

It is possible - though its hard to get onto a plane these days without a passport check and to do this without checking the photo would only happen if someone from the airline screwed up, more from the security side than the preventing someone escaping - thats not really the airlines job

Think if I wanted to sneak out of the country though I'd go by boat or train - much lower risk

I reckon you should put it to the test mate.

Try to board your plane on Saturday wearing a ski-mask.

RE: They have no idea how he got away

Listening to an interview on Radio 5 this morning, apparently there are very few checks made on people leaving the country compared to those entering (the comment being "we aren't really bothered who's leaving"!) and it was also said that it is the responsibility of the airlines that the people boarding the planes were who they said they were. There are procedures in place whereby a woman (or in this case I suppose a man!) wearing the veil can be taken to a private room and asked to remove the garment in order to be identified, of course doing this in every case would place quite an additional burden on the aiport staff.
Does show how having retina scanning at airports would be useful though!

ahh the old "one that got away" story...wonder how big he was (stretches arms wide) nt

The fact that he entered the country on a false passport in 98 ..

might give us a clue as to how he escaped though !!!

He'd also been arrested 22 times since he arrived in this country...

and he'd also been convicted and imprisoned for 4 offences, one being a firearms offence !!!

    Unbelievable aint it...

The reason he wasn't deported there in the first place

was that it was too dangerous for anyone to take him. Not a lot of law and order there.

I'd be surprised if there's any aid going to Somalia. don't even think it has a government.

behave Jay, this is a sensible post for those expressing a genuine interest and concern about a poverty stricken failed state.
