We couldn't wait to have a pop at Ritchie for being the 'cheap option'. For signing players we arrogantly didn't think were good enough for our mighty club. (Wednesday in disguise many on here) For not playing Nardiello. For playing McPhail/Hassell/Hayes/Carbon etc (delete as appropriate). We couldn't wait to say the defence was crap, the attack was lightweight, the midfield didn't create. He was 'one of the lads' and so on and so forth. He's proved all of us wrong so far and so now we'll have a pop because he's decided, being privy to all relevant facts to let Burns have a trial at another club.

Viewing from here it's not something I agree with, but then again, I'm not in Ritchie's position. 'Weak management' scream the wannabees. 'Put BFC first' - that's what he might be doing in the long run if you give him half a chance.

He's got us this far, and in a miles better league position at this stage than we've ever been in this division, and way beyond what I anticipated. I don't know how things will pan out this season but how about cutting him a little slack rather than trying so hard to justify your own prejudices against him ? Because you are never wrong.

But then again that'd take some humility and good grace.

    Time and again.....

Andy Ritchie (and Gordon and Patrick) have shown that they have the 'right stuff' and the good Barnsley stuff to take BFC forward.

They have stopped the rot. They have turned around a seven year decline. Coom On.

    I agree.

    Bugger, what am I saying.

I think most of our critics including me have watched Barnsley teams play at a higher level of football than League One for so many years that we haven't taken on board the fact that this division is full of League One players. Some are Championship quality some are League 2 quality.

The defence gets moaned at because because we have seen McCarthy, Pat Howard, Ian Evans ,Paul Futcher,Fleming,Morgan, De Zeeuw....ect.

The defence gets away with making a lot of basic defensive errors because the opposition strikers are League One players. They don't punish mistakes like a Ships or Hendrie could. That doesn't alter the fact that they do make mistakes and we see them.

The midfield is called lightweight because we have seen Glavin, Redfearn, and Agnew.

The attack doesn't give you the feeling that we are going to score every time we get in the attacking 3rd of the field.

The sides of the past which have been pushing to gain promotion excited the fans, you came to the games with a buzz of anticipation.

I was listening to a Dave Bassett interview last night and he summed it up perfectly. The lower Leagues are long ball and physical because the players haven't got a good enough technique to play a sustained passing game.

Lets hope we can stuff Colchester tomorrow.
    I think we will.

All Barnsley fans need to accept that we are where we are. We've had consecutive seasons of decline in the standard of first team personnel. At long last, it looks like we MAY have a management team that is addressing the shortcomings. They won't get everything right straight away and they won't always do what certain individual Barnsley fans think is the right thing.

    Get behind 'em and that.

So you are basically saying we have put a team together to hopefully get us out of this league and then we will need to shop around abit in the summer to do some tactile replacements (if we go up obviously).

Sounds like the right thing for a manager to do... get us out of the hole that is this division

    S'pose.

We do seem to have the worst 'fans' (myself obviously not included) in the world.

I love (well, hate really) all those fans who are up in arms everytiime a story like the recent Burns drama comes along. Without even knowing 10% of the story they are on everyones backs and think that if they were in Andy Ritchies palce they could do better. My arse they could. Walk a few miles in his shoes and you'd be paying to get back to your own cosy little worlds.
