The back 4 have a problem at the moment, they are not working as a unit, but this can be sorted on the training pitch. The midfield is doing well and will get even better when De Silva is back. The main problem Barnsley has got is the strikers. We dont look like scoring. I haven't seen Rigters yet so I can't judge him but if he aint up to it we need two strikers and we need them ASAP. Again, against Cardiff we had the bulk of the play but we have a powder puff strike force. Professional footballers soon realise during a match when the opposition have nothing to offer up front. This of course gives the opposition confidence to go on and win the game. In a nutshell this is what is happening at the moment. The Cardiff match was a prime example. They tried for Phillips and they didn't get him, but we cant stop there, we need to push on to try and find one or maybe two players with similar ability to Phillips. Get them and we will have a different team all together. Its going to cost to bring these players in, but if we don't I think relegation will cost us much much more.
Re: Its not all negative...................we only need a bit of tweeking nt it would help if the back four just stayed in position instead of going walkabout
I genuinely think it runs deeper than that Nudger.
After 10 minutes on Tuesday we stopped competing. Well, with the exception of Luke Steele, JCR and some of the back 4 imho.
That was a display void of shape, void of movement. It was fundamentally wrong. In the 2nd half Cardiff had a training session whilst we let them.
There's more than an odd adjustment needed to turn that around.

I still think the effort is being put in If the players heads were down and there was no effort being put in then I would agree with the general concensus about SD But this is NOT what is happening Its the lack of guile and skill up front thats the problem
RE: I still think the effort is being put in I don't want to start speculating as to why - but I think on Tuesday they did just enough not to get tonked, with the help of Cardiff who eased off 2nd half.
You are correct about up front mind. We have no options. We've got Hume and Macken who don't complement each other, and who don't seem to work well with KO. It was rumoured we were after Stead - he could have given us a different forward option. If you're thinking of anothe 'Hendrie' style player, I can't thionk of a similar one who is available at the mo.

Midfield has been **** Nudger the wide men are quick enough going forward but not when it comes to retreating and helping out the defence. Maybe we should get 2 Italian wingers. The midfield is also creating very little for our forwards to have a go at.
Like to see Davey given chance to bring a left back in on loan if he's still got the full support of the owner, with Teale gone back to Derby, a new face at left back might bring some fresh optimism and reinvigorate things.
This next two weeks will make or break Davey
He came from nowhere into a relatively high profile manager's job. He battled for the first season to keep us up and that carried into last season to some extent.
When the wheels fell off his managerial failings were hidden by the cup run, which got him wide acclaim in the footballing world off the back of winning two matches.
Now he's truely in the ****, and he's got nowhere to hide except for his own self believing post match statements. He's been found out but could rescue it if he finds something within himself to inspire these players to do well for him, because they are more than good enough to complete in this league.
Its 100% down to Simon Davey and what he can do. I'll give him 3 games, he needs to win at least 2 imho.

El Haimour had played left back for the last two years. Admittedly at a standard well below the Champioship but ....................
He doesnt look robust enough to me might take time to adapt, more likely to be a left winger from the little I've seen of him.
All signings are a bit of a gamble I remember when we signed De Silva, Davey had gone to an Everton reserves game to watch a left back, Boyle, and we ended up getting Andersen on loan instead. In every game I saw him play for Southend, I thought JCR was rubbish. Just goes to show. You can do as much due diligence as you like, its no guarantee that the player is going to work out. I think if a team is playing well and winning games, it brings the best out in all players as confidence is up and they are able to express themselves without fear. When confidence is lacking due to bad results, its the players that stand up to be counted that you need. A new face coming in ideally from a successful side, would not be suffering from the same lack of confidence and hopefully that rubs off on those around.
Da Silva had played regular La Liga football. El Haimour kept getting relegated from the Swiss league. No comparison.
RE: I still think the effort is being put in Up front is a big concern, we dont need someone who is good at holding the ball up etc, macken is ok at that what we need is power, pace and flare and overall someone who can it the target. KO is big and strong but couldnt hit the target if he tried and we have not got the time to wait for him to become the type of player simon davey seems to think he is. (only 6 games in i know) I dont believe davey will be in charge if there isnt another three points on the board by the 10 games played mark. Not usually downbeat but i really didnt expect to be bottom after 6 games even though our pre-season was appalling. Da silva will help, but one player cannot lift you to that mid table position that we all require. Having said all this changing the manager every 12 months s not the way forward, but common sense is not prevaling at the mo.
