After the first 15 minutes it was looking an odds on away win. Barnsley were not really in it and struggled to string 2 passes together. Forest, for all the possession weren't much better, especially in the opposition penalty area.

Another 10 or 15 minutes of, at best, Sunday League football from both sides, Barnsley began to keep the ball, push Forest back and create chances. From being the opening 10 minutes villain (well realtively speaking), Conlon suddenly transformed into a centre forward (although was totally surprised to see him pop up at right back (wtf?) but then hit the best long pass of the afternoon to Kay, in acres of space, not far outside the Forest area. BBB was instrumental in most forward moves, his control and passing were excellent and it was fair reward when he scored the opening goal, stabbing in a rebound from only about 5 yards out. Barnsley were now dominating play and just before half time, the best move of the game (Devanney on the left cut inside passed to Hayes who laid a superb pass in front of Shuker who, from a tight angle on the LEFT hand side of goal, hit a cracking first time shot into the far corner.

Second half Forest seemed to have loads of possession but the back four held out well. Carbon and Reid, on this performance, look a decent enough pairing in the middle, Robbie Williams didn't let the side down and if Austin could only improve his distribution .... Colgan pulled off one excellent save in the first half, caught a couple of crosses under pressure, punched a couple (crosses) too, but then seemed to be caught totally unawares by a long range shot from Commons which came back of the post. (Commons was, for me, the most inventive player on the pitch and looked a very good player. He linked up very well with the left back Padula and they kept Austin and Shuker busy most of the afternoon).

Midfield tackled well and for 20 minutes in the first half started to set up a series of attacks. Only disappointment being the quality of crossing, again! Devanney (first time I've seen him) didn't pull up any trees, but did block out any potential threat from Eaden getting too far forward, had a hand in the goal and in the second half, beat two players, cut into the Forest area to the bye line but then put the cross behind Conlon and Nardiello.

Official MOM went to Shuker, imho Carbon was mom with a mention too for BBB.

Not the best game of football you are likely to see, have to say though a very well worked goal for Shuker and an excellent finish - better than the game deserved really. Still 3 points and a clean sheet - can't have everything.

I didn't realise that one had hit the post.

Was it deflected on the way through?
