This morning. For the first time ever, one has taken food from my hand. A beautiful robin has taken a mealworm from my fingers! I feel like *Dr Dolittle!:D The blackbirds, sparrows and tits are more reticent. :D On a side note, my two old dogs still love playing in the snow like a couple of puppies. They can't stand the rain, though!
Sorry for the non football post.

Any snow in Barnsley? Seen there seems to be quite a bit in West Yorkshire?

It's been snowing heavily in Dodworth earlier, but it appears to be turning to rain.

Its a great feeling isnt it? Robins are the most confiding and trusting of all our native birds, and youll wait a long while to get any other species to feed from your hand. Nearest Ive come is a blackbird who trusts me enough to stand a couple of feet away whilst I fill up the feeders.

It is, my old friend, I love doing it. One of our blackbirds was tapping on our kitchen window earlier. I found myself talking to it, saying "I'll be out in a few minutes"! He was waiting for me, on our fence, when I went out. They've certainly got me well trained.:D
Talking to the wild birds! Crystal's probably right, I AM losing my marbles!:D

I'm just the same, I always pay my respects to a Magpie when I see one and I'm constantly telling the birds (and squirrels) in the garden that I'm not there to hurt them.

Still, I am at the age that talking to wild birds is as far as I'm ever gonna get lol

I think the birds who visit our garden are well aware we and the dogs won't harm them. Many's the time during warmer weather when the dogs are laid outside and the birds (sparrows in particular) simply hop about around them, sometimes even between their paws.
When I'm talking to the birds, my family and neighbours give me a "Kev's as mad as a bag of frogs, but at least he's harmless" look.:D

Where I used to go fishing in winter I always had two or three robins around me. They used to perch on my pole when I had shipped in tobre bait as they knew it was tit bit time.

I can fully understand the tits being a bit wary of you - I remember your Girl Friday posts.
Sorry if my post lowers the tone.

Funny thing, that, how the meaning of the term "wild birds" changes as you age.

    Kev,
    What birds do you get?
We have sparrows, blackbirds, robins, blue tits, great tits, long tailed tits, chaffinches, greenfinches, goldfinches, starlings, wood pigeons, ring doves, occasional nuthatch, great spotted woodpecker, bullfinches now and then. That's all I can think of right now.
My favourite... the long tailed tits.

Nothing out of the ordinary. We get blackbirds, robins, magpies, wood pigeons, ring necked doves, chaffinches, blue tits, great tits, goldfinches, off the top of my head. After today, robins are definitely my favourite.:D
