Luke Steele played well, but........ In the cold dark of night, most of his saves were regulation ones that any decent keeper would have saved. It was just that there were lots of them. The near post one was good as was the tip over near the end. My constructive point is, after analysing the game in detail, Liverpool were crap.
That to me rather takes away due credit to the Reds ..... and we should not do that. The saves were excellent. A good few of those would have gone in with a lot of goalies in charge.
OK I take it back he was brilliant Bloody "Tonight's Tipple" to blame http://www.barnsleyfc.org.uk/BBS/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=97608&mid=629162#M629162
Having said that!....... I seem to recall Nigel Batch and Geoff Crudington performing heroics against us many moons ago......... Actually; with rose tinted gigs on maybe, i seem to recall quite a few goalies making about 4/5 outstanding saves in a game on occasion at the 'well in the early 80's. And; to be honest; i feel that the standard of English goalkeeping has declined terribly! Long gone has the day of someone like Ray Clemence holding the ball - every **** opts for the punch-out option these days -- extremely continental........... Having said that; Luke Steele was the dog's B*ll*cks! Top bloke! Now............... whose ever had a better debut than the lad?
It's just that ... ... I used to be a keeper when I played. Every time I had a good game the rest of the lads thought we were crap. If I had nowt to do they thought we were fantastic. The fact is the keeper is one of a team - if he plays well and keeps the ball out he contributes to the team, just as much as when an outfield player scores a hat trick or whatever. That's what he is there for. By the way, I once saved 3 penalties in one game. Anyway I'm p****d well done you redz!
