I've got an appointment at the hospital tomorrow in Sheffield and was wondering if anyone ever had this done ?

I have to have a thin tube put up my nose and through to my stomach for 24 whilst it's connected to a machine to test the acid in my stomach

can anyone tell me what it's like, (I really am not looking forward to it)

    Cheers

    I've not had that test

But I have had a tube up my nose and into my stomach. I had it for a couple of weeks. It's not particularly pleasant when they do it, but it's nothing to worry about. Once it's up there you quickly get used to and it causes no discomfort. It does get in the way though and you can bang it on things.

In short it won't hurt and there's nothing to worry about.

You'll not feel it once it's in. You're aware of the tube coming out of your nose but you can't feel it inside you.

Re: I've not had that test

Not had that done lol, but I once had a camera down my throat to look in my stomach. I was expecting some really thin fibre optic tube or something, but the ******* must have been 1cm round. I remember thinking that fecking thing won't fit down my throat, surly that's the case. Thought I was going to choke to death :) just kept burping and being sick while they probed around in my stomach

The worst experience of my life.

    Hope this helps :)

Andy, had that one done a couple of times. Like you say first time I was expecting a thin tube but they pulled out a bloody hosepipe, that is an awful thing to have done

Easy for me to say, but just relax (as much as you can) as they are putting the tube in. It will be uncomfortable as they pass it through your nose and again as it hits the back of your throat, but once it does hit the back of your throat swallow and keep on swallowing, as you need to help it on its way down the right hole. Don't worry though, because if it starts heading down the wrong one you'll soon know about it! If you relax and swallow when you're told to, the procedure should take seconds and you'll be fine once the tube is in place.

Not quite the same but I've had a camera up my nose and down my throat a couple of times. It felt a little weird but it's fine. Just relax

Never had the ass camera and they can keep it along with that willy one.
App at 11am mate and back the next day to have it taken out. The worse part is I've had to stop my tablets 7 days ago that stop the acid. So far I'm at over 120 gaviscon and it's orrid, just constant heart burn 24/7, what makes it worse I cant eat or drink anything without the problem. Cant wait till I can have the tablets again

Funny you should say that cos I had been suffering the same and like you it was everything I was eating or drinking, I was sick of liquid gaviscon, I went on the Internet and found a list of foods which shouldnt irritate it and upto press fingers crossed I've been ok, it ruined my chuffing Christmas tho cos I couldn't drink lol!

Anything can set it of mate, I know what can ease it but I will still get the symptoms, liquid gaviscon is horrid.

Re: I've not had that test

I know exactly what you mean! I went for the camera down my throat to look into my stomach a couple of years ago as I get terrible acid reflux. I have a bad gag reflex so they gave me a sedative beforehand which made no difference whatsoever, I was still shaking like a leaf. I managed to swallow the camera down but then couldn't stop gagging and went into major panic mode, I kicked out and the poor Doctor went flying across the room! They took the camera out in the end as I couldn't go through with it. I really should go back and try again as I still have outbreaks of terrible acid reflux and I can't eat as I regurgitate all the time. I constantly have stomach acid coming up into my mouth.

I'm on a really high dosage of Omeprazole and sometimes have to have Gaviscon aswell. I made major changes to my diet, elevated my bed, don't eat after 6 to avoid possible acid triggers but sometimes I still get acid coming up.

Don't know what you are on Kanecat but I take 40mg of nexium, like you still have to take gaviscon with them at times . I would go back. I found out I have no valve that stops the acids so be put forward for surgery.
