Some people have all the luck I'm quickly coming to the conclusion, that nobody is ever going to hand me a large cheque and point me in the direction of the doorsaying "do one"</p> Joined a company 8 years ago, 60 people in the company. Within 2 years it was down to 12 people, left a year ago with the numbers up to 20 again. They've just started paying people to f-off again. I must be one of only three people that have left that company in the last 8 years without being given a large cheque! Without exception, everyone I know who they let go has landed on their feet.</p> I can see it, the day I get made redundant will be because the company have gone bankrupt ...</p>
RE: Some people have all the luck When I voluntarily left the Air Force in 1994 after 24 years of service it was for personal reasons rather than financial ones. The military were going through yet another round of drawdown schemes/cutbacks/rationalisations (call it what you will). The RAF was shedding historical trade groups like some of the general engineering guys (carpenters for example) and - I kid you not - the guys who looked after our BOATS. Yes, we had some! I was told however that administrators like me would NOT get the generous redundancy terms that some were getting. So I put my notice in and left - it was time to move on. Less than a year later administrators started leaving with redundancy payments of £35,000 and more!!! Bit irritating, that...
Just re-read that and it doesn't come across the way it was meant Sowhat I was trying to say was...</p> Nice one getting a decent redundancy pay out. Everyone I know from my old company that got made redundant (and there were lots) was happier with where it took them.</p> I'm sure I'll never be lucky enough to get the gilt edged choice of "do one". Enjoy the dog walking.</p>
