https://www.theguardian.com/business/2022/jan/31/tesco-to-close-jacks-discount-chain Well I'll gu tu foot o' r stairs* Who'd have thought it, building a supermarket in the car park of your parent company hasn't worked. Whilst I'm pleased to see all front line staff re-employed at other shops, I'd like to know what happened to the committee of clowns who thought it was a good idea in the first place. I mean, fk me, these (head office) people (And the former CEO/MD) get new jobs I presume? Can I be CEO of a company please? I'll do it for half your wage and I promise I'll not open up a competing shop in the car park of the man shop. Pinky promise. * I can't type in Barnsley Totally different subject, and in all seriousness, anyone seen/heard from @Redhelen lately? She's conspicuous by her absence.
I think the plan was to attract the Aldi/Lidl lot, while getting them closer to Tesco. It’s not such a daft idea on paper. They seem to think they’ve achieved their aims, but I can’t imagine their aim was to build some supermarkets then shut em all.
To be fair, I thought the one in Barnsley was the only one built in a Tesco car park. The one in Wakefield is on a retail park nowhere near a Tesco.
I've heard Conway's in talks with them to set it up as "The PMG indoor arena". Grove Street becomes Wombwell Lane.
It might have worked if Aldi wasn't better for both quality and price than proper Tesco to begin with. I've no idea why anyone who chooses Aldi over Tesco would then decide to choose a ***** version of Tesco over Aldi
Totally different subject, and in all seriousness, anyone seen/heard from @Redhelen lately? She's conspicuous by her absence.[/QUOTE] BBS cold turkey.
Especially at Stairfoot, where you've got an Aldi at the roundabout and a Lidl just outside Wombwell. You have to pass one of the big German stores before you get to Jack's if you are driving...
Bloke who set it up for Tesco's was an ex director of Aldi, you may ask how he got it so spectacularly wrong, well he was trying to shoe horn Aldi operations into the bloatware that is Tesco's, was always doomed. He left a few months ago, now at Barclays.
I went in once, the day before the first lockdown was announced when I realised that I no bloody food in having sat at home scoffing at people panic buying for over a week. After trying Aldi, Lidl, Morrisons and Tesco and finding f*** all in, I managed to pick up about 50% of what I was after in Jacks (which I didn't know was there before). Can only assume most folk considered it too thrifty to bother looking in there, hence it had some stock.
Hope she is OK. On a purely selfish level my' likes received' count, like half the posters on this BB, will take a big hit if she has stopped reading/posting.
I’ve tried Aldi a few times and it’s just not for me. Stuff just seems to be all over the place. Bread, patio chairs, wine, snorkel.
You clearly are not adventurous enough in your retail exploits. Sit on your patio in said chair. Pour wine down the snorkel, avoiding any spillage. Pass out, using a nice sliced batch as a pillow. Rinse & repeat.
