Obviously, I knew that anyway. But it's nice to hear Flicker admit as much on Player. "We thought we'd got Butts, but for whatever reasons Norwich didn't want him to come back.. the lad would have come" Just putting that out there, as I saw plenty of folk on here/twitter etc suggesting he chose Bolton, turned us down. He didn't, he didn't have a choice. So when Everton loan Stonesy out, which they might, don't expect him to definitely end up here, and should he go somewhere else, remember it's not always down to the player and what they want.
With regard to Stones it should have been down to Don Rowing who SHOULD have negotiated it into the contract of sale. Pathetically amateur that he didn't do that and that we are now in the position where he 'might' go out on loan and if he does it 'might' be to us. Should have been written down and signed before he was allowed to go anywhere. **** contract negotiating again, the sooner the club is rid of the current leaders the better
sending them to a different club other than us could also be a test of their character too. Butterfield and Stones know Barnsley very well and are known by us too. That familiarity may not be a test of the characters of the guys. But send them somewhere totally alien to them and see how they shine or not there, that could tell their respective new managers a lot about their temperament and strength of character.
Why would everton want him to go elsewhere? They have seen his development with us, that's why they forked out for him. He will play regularly for us which can only help further.
According to reports in Everton, their local press etc, Stones won't be going anywhere on loan and that's why no loan back option was included. However, as with most things in life, things could change. I've seen it said that Everton paid just 500k for him, with the rest due incrementally, over the duration of his contract. Perhaps a question for Don at the next BBS gathering..?
which is why they have used the old "undisclosed fee" nonsense again to flannel us the fans again, thats why.
Whats the point in asking him anything? He was asked if anyone had a clause in their contract, said no and then it turned out they did. He was asked about a scoreboard, said we would have one by october, we didnt. Was asked about TV's, said they'd be on, they arent. Was asked about a bar, said we were getting one, none seen. The only question he should be asked is 'The club have told the fans several times that you are the only paid director. The accounts show that rose over 27% (yes thats over twenty seven percent) from £62,750 in the year ending 2011 to £80,000 in the year ending 2012. Can you explain such a huge rise in payments considering how public you have been regarding the clubs lack of finances and further can you confirm if these were solely to you as the only paid director of the club?
What is a reasonable salary for a person managing all the business interests of a multimillion pound concern and achieving success in terms of balancing the books and ensuring long term viability? You can choose an example from any walk of life you want.
I'm not sure and I wasn't questioning the amount, I was asking why there was a huge rise in payments between one year and the next when the club was telling us about a decrease in revenue.
Probably goes up over time. Or perhaps it's a bonus for achieving a profit? Or maybe it's linked to his retirement? Personally, I'm not bothered. I can guarantee that whoever takes up the role once Don leaves will face similar stick. Ah well, at least most of us realise that he's merely the fall guy.
And it's not an unreasonable question. I have to say I'd want more than £80k to have to put up with the stick he gets. I was shocked when I saw the figure, it's only a fraction of the salary of a high flyer such as mrx ;-) I don't know Don Rowing and I don't really have an opinion on him, but taking all things into account, for Barnsley to turn in a small profit/break even when all around are overspending is quite an achievement. Maybe selling the family silver can only work in the short term, but we don't know what his advisors are telling him about our up and coming crop to know if he sees this as a long term strategy, I know if I was in his shoes that's what I'd be looking at doing. That said I'd invest in very good talent spotters to make it a realistic prospect.
