I can't think of many Barnsley players that have been technically adept with both feet. A valuable commodity these days.
Looks a good prospect doesnt he? First time I saw him was in pre season at Rotherham last year. Looked sharp and his passing was good. Must say Im impressed with what Ive seen from him and the other young players so far.
Re: Jacob Butterfield....................... Came through the Academy many posters want shutting down.
dont know why they dont drill it into players when young!?? daft as it sounds i was right footed then when we were laiking one kick we started playing with the other peg only and it just developed into being able to use either feet. I know one kick aint laiking footy but im on about being able to train yourself to use your other peg. I still feel my right peg is the main one but still comfortable with the left and left wing was my best position.
He should have been given the chance last season We were crying out for someone in his position last season and davey continually ignored him. He eventually let the lad come off the bench and he looked a class apart from anyone else, obviously he was then dropped.
I remember Brian Howard coming to a Trust fans forum towards the end of the season before last and he raved on about how good Butterfield was.
To be fair to Howard, he scored a few with his right foot, including one at home to Leeds. The rest of the time it was just for standing on I can't wait to see what all the fuss is about regarding Jacob though, maybe we have a little gem here.
RE: dont know why they dont drill it into players when young!?? At school, on the first official training, the sports teacher divided us into rights and left. From that moment on all lefts played or the right and vice versa.
I remember an interview Bobby Charlton gave About how he practiced and practiced shooting with both feet till he could hit the ball well with either foot I do wonder why so many players are so one footed. Like Omen I practiced with both feet - I am right footed but when I used to play could pass and shoot with both feet so though my left was the weaker it wasnt that much worse than my right.
McPhail is a good example of a one footed player. Good on the ball and cool as a cucumber but totally left footed even to the point of running round the ball to get in onto his left rather than taking a touch with his right foot.
it was funny to see him do that but to his credit I do recall a couple of times he did play it on his right foot - almost as rare as hens teeth!
