I still firmly expect him to leave, and I'll be gutted if/when he does, but I have to admit I'm getting a little more optimistic about the prospect of him staying.

There's been barely a peep on the rumour mill in recent weeks re him, which is very strange. Matthew Murray from the Chronicle tweeted "Had a very interesting chat with Jacob Butterfield today...." and then didn't elaborate, which seems to suggest there may be a prospect of him staying - very strange tweet to make unless thats the situation.

As I say, I find it hard to believe that the club can convince him to stay, but my optimism is increasing slightly.

I agree, my optimism for him staying has raised from 0 to 0.5.

Hopefully the players we've been bringing in have made him realise that we may well be a good team to be with next season

He doesnt deserve to stay in my opinion!! We offered him a new improved contract when he was injured and choose to wait to sign it!! The only way he will stay is if he cant get another club!! He obviously doesnt want to play for Barnsley so he can go for me!! I think he is over rated any how!! Only my opinion like!!

There is a big difference between not wanting to play for Barnsley and being quite happy to play for Barnsley but looking at other options before deciding to committ to a long contract
I'd love to play football for Barnsley FC but if I had a choice of doing that or getting 3 times as much money and playing in the prem I would probably take the prem deal

True if butts stays with us its because he cant find something which is better from his point of view but it doesnt mean he doesnt want to play for us

    - its irrelevant anyway I am sure he wont be here in August

I was told last night that he's struggling to be fit for the start of the season, and no other club had offered him a contract.

I agree. As a club we have developed him and turned him into the player that he is, we have shown him a lot of loyalty (even when he wasn't Billy Big ******) and at the first sniff of him being a better player he has shown us the middle finger. I don't have a problem with players being ambitious and wanting to move on to improve themselves but they way he has 'reportedly' treated the club and Keef while he has been out of action show me that he is a first class dick who cares only about himself. I don’t think he wants to be here, he thinks he is better than the club and a player with that kind of attitude shouldn’t get the privilege of putting our club shirt on.

He's only had 4 months proper first team action, in my opinion that doesnt make him a star premiership player, especially after his injury. For him to have a longer career he should sign on with us and prove those 4 months weren't a one off, and if he does it after he's had that injury then even better for him!

another reasonto stay is his mate mellis signing on - fingers crossed they both do

Would really get people excited about the new season again - espess if we land mido as well and get him fit and firing again.

    That's what i thought too.

People that don't really know much about BFC, but think that Butterfield is a "star player" then him signing, alongside Mido, might put more bums on seats

I agree with MK, - Butterfield is not as good as he thinks he is and probably getting some bad advice from somewhere - agents out to make an easy buck??

I honestly don't think he's like that Mario.

He seems a quite lad to me and even possibly shy like say Wayne Rooney in front of a camera or media groups.

Not a clue who is agent is but i think he's got more to do with it than most transfers.

Wonder how his knew has healed. Is he back running and kicking a ball yet? Do they know if the op has been a success? Will he get back to the standard he was?

Knees are funny things and ya don't appreciate how much they do until they don't work right! Had some trouble with mine recently and its taking some getting right.

I think he was due to run before end of season.

The op went very well, or thats what i read heard from someone at the club.

You're possibly right Phil and I do blame his agent for a lot of this but it wouldn’t have taken any effort for Jacob just to have picked the phone up and spoken to Keef.
Both Keef and the Don have said they've heard nothing from Jacob despite efforts by them to speak to him (and his agent). If his agent wants to be a complete c0ck then fine as that comes with the territory of being an agent but after what the club have done for him Jacob owes it a little more respect than he is showing. That’s just my opinion anyway.

He as from listening to Keith Hill, He's not met him or been to the club but from listening to him on that audioboo et i think they have spoken.

I wish Radio Sheffield would only speak to Keith Hill because it seems he gets different info to Don Rowing.
TBF to Jacob, would you ring your boss if you had a problem or the essential head of company?
