Put a reight shift in last night. Going to be another product of Keith Hill's second chance footballing academy.
Not taking owt away from him as I think he's a top player, but I do think he's playing in a dream position. Midfield 'free role' with Cranie, Dawson, Dagnall doing his running for him. Same goes for Butterfield last year. When he had Drinkwater, Perkins, OBrien (all grafters) behind him he was able to roam about and run the game. Said at the beginning of last season that if Butterfield added goals to his game he'd be a Prem player. Same goes for Mellis...goals are coming and if it continues we might have problems keeping him.
Agree, but he's doing just like Butterfield did and adding graft to his game as well. Lost count the number of times he put a foot in or chased a man down. Endeavour.
Butterfield came back last season and started seeing out 90 mins, thats something we need Mellis to do because from what I`ve seen and heard we lose our creativity when he is replaced.
In the East Stand lower on saturday there were a few mutterings about him being a lazy so-and-so but I thought he put the necessary effort in myself. Some people are never satisfied. His turn and pass to setup Davies was excellent.
He does tend to put half hearted challenges in at times. 50-50's suddenly turn into 70-30's. Dyson's right though, put his foot in last night and did enough of the ugly stuff to keep his manager happy. A lot rests on his shoulders because he's the only real attacking threat from midfield.
Thought he played well first half, but for me he was terrible in the 2nd, gave the ball away too easy and on countless times tried to be fancy when he should just have controlled the ball or played it out wide. His first touch let him down too. Think he's had a good season up to now, but for me, his 2nd half last night in particular was far from his best performance to date.
