What a player we have here. I think sometimes people forget (myself included) that this lad only turned 22 this year. He's only just at the same age Butterfield was when he had his first season as a regular. Yet Mellis has shown a lot more consistency and taken a lot more responsibility than Butterfield did when he was first breaking into the side.

The best thing about him is there's still so much more to come from him. In the words of Flicker 'wow'.

agreed. interesting feedback from ben on monday though. clearly not looking to discuss contract extensions at this stage. flicker grimaced. that said, if anyone knows how to sort contracts, it's ben and maurice. have to trust we're in very good hands

Agree. Think if the board aren't willing to tie mellis an perks down then we should consider cashing in on one of them. As we have a stronger squad than the last few seasons.
We would miss them but could surely get around 800k each.

800k for mells is an insult. his ability and development potential are worth at least three times that. unfortunately, his remaining contract and the fact that he's a barnsley player, means he gets a silly valuation

Nobody would pay anywhere neat that for Perks considering his age. If anyone was willing we should snap their hand off!

Said before, a healthy start to the season and optimistic chance of staying in the championship will see contract offers for Jacob and Perks.

Yeah that didn't look good that we are in no rush to offer a contract to one of our best players who's got less than 12 months left on his deal. We might have to cash in during this window to avoid the risk of vultures looking for a cheap signing in January when bigger clubs try and unsettle him.

I think you're right. I really don't think that we'll be "cashing in" on Perkins though, as his value to us is far more than his transfer market value (unless I'm underestimating the transfer market). Having said that, in his shoes I'd be looking for a substantial pay increase whether that's with us or elsewhere. At the end of the day I can't imagine he's on much and he's the wrong side of 30 so his next contract will almost certainly be his last at this level. As I said earlier I can't see anyone splashing out a large transfer fee due to his age but I bet they'll be queuing up for him once he's out of contract.

With 1 year left on his contract I think we will struggle to get more than 800k

He's the most technically talented player at the club. I just think that we should play him in the middle where he's most effective. Unfortunately, Flicker doesn't seem to trust him to play in a 2, but if we've got wingers that will track back then I think it's worth taking the risk.

He needs to do a bit more for me. He comes in and out too much but that was because we were ***** before Flitcroft took over and then competition took its toll at times. Would like to see him chip in with a few more and that might win me over. If we are to play a 3-5-2, I'd rather have Perkins and Dawson sat in front of Digby I'm afraid. I would welcome a bid from Crystal Palace if they were to offer decent money because he wouldn't be my first choice and then we could maybe bring in a hitman up top. I agree, he's only 22 and got bags of potential but we need to see it more often.

With Dawson and Perkins infront of digby we wouldn't create or score hardly any goals from midfield at all. Some of his goals and assists last season helped us stay in this league!

He's passed his heart of a pea on to Hourihane apparently.

Just when I'd forgotten about the useless two-hat this pops up.
