Or, Maccavelli. Supposedly signing for the Blunts. Found this Swindon blog post on him. Sounds like a totally different player. It's funny football, innit? http://thewashbag.com/2014/05/07/jay-mceveley-only-missing-a-goal/ A lot of that reads like the total opposite to the JayMac we saw here. But I'd like to point out that he was a lovely lad, James. I can't wish him luck though if he's joining that stain of a football club.
Was never as bad as people made him out to be. Amazing how all our full backs have been awful for the last few years, maybe it's something to do with who's been playing in front of 'em.
Yep. I rated Carl Dickinson and Ryan Shotton. That lad called John Stones was pretty good too. As was Bobby Hassell. Other than that, it has been a real weakness for the last few years - Tom Kennedy was abysmal. I thought Wiseman was similarly very weak but would have done OK as a Right Wing Back.
I was never a harsh critic of McEveley. I sat next to one during his time at Barnsley (didn't I Mr Lil?), but I thought he was OK. Just OK though. He's not someone I'd want back in the team. I'm hoping we can extend the loan of Dudgeon until the new year so we can gradually introduce George Smith in to the team, a player I'm really looking forward to seeing. Did you go on Tuesday? What did you reckon? I thought James Bailey looked, well, ******* brilliant, and our style of play was as good as I've seen for a long, long time even though it didn't always come off. We really should have scored at least three though. I always look forward to a new season, but this year I'd no idea what to expect. Really looking forward to it now because even though we may not storm the league, we're going to see some good football.
Wiseman is an odd one. All the right attributes: pace, a bit of skill, could head, tackle and pass, but rarely put it all together in a decent performance. I could definitely see why Keith Hill brought him to the club, but couldn't understand why he kept playing him when he was so clearly under-performing and costing us goals, while all along we had a very dependable alternative in Bobby Hassell. Decisions like that eventually cost Hill his job although I'm not sure he cared that much as he never seemed happy or comfortable at Barnsley. Wiseman certainly didn't want to be here, he made that clear when he left, which could explain a lot of his performances, although, by all accounts, he hasn't been pulling up any trees for Preston either.
I just thought McEveley was alright - didn't do anything magical but never as bad as people made out. Ever. Didn't go Tuesday, was off gallivanting with work. I'm really excited about what we're doing this year and hopefully next, and the year after that. Like you I had no idea about any of the laikers but I knew that Danny was signing good, young footballers who in the main haven't played at this level. Danny will want 'em playing in a certain style and that takes time. Going to Crewe Saturday, though which means we'll lose and Conan will lock himself in his room to listen to thrash funk metal.
I don't know what it was with Wiseman but he always looked 10mph faster bombing forward than he ever did running back to cover.
I think I was confusing the two. Actually, they've sort of amalgamated in my head in to one person. That's a big word innit - person.
I think the time's right to trot out 'procrastinate' again this season when you're offering your advice in full voice to the manager. Wasn't Andy Ritchie the last one bestowed with the honour? Best, most articulate advice EVER. FACT.
I think fullbacks have always been an easy target. My mate for instance never liked (rated) Murphy,Chambers,Yates,Gorry,Eaden etc.Too near the touch line easy to abuse for some.
Kozluk-one of the most talentless, unprofessional players I've ever seen play for Barnsley. Contributing nothing but unnecessary bookings, sendings off & conceding of penalties. Supposed to be a bit of a joker off the park, so that apparently excused his incompetence and joke performances on it.
Absolutely. In all honesty, when I reflect on my contemporary dislike for certain Barnsley players, hardly any of them were as bad as I thought they were at the time. If anything, it shows how much of a Drama Queen I've been, and continue to be.
Love that post. Post of the week. Not that i've anything against Kozluk but just because it's rare you are so outspoken about a player past or present
