    Represent two very good and self-explanatory reasons why I won't be going to Oakwell again. Followed tarn for more than thirty years, ever-present home and away for a few of those, now restricted to the occasional setdi/midweek when I'm not working. I can barely afford it for missen, let alone take the kids.

    The club are committing commercial suicide. They've lost a long-term punter and aren't likely to see any new ones from this family until they change this utterly ridiculous pricing structure.

    Shame on you Barnsley Football Club.

    I'd still urge you to go

    As I will when I can afford it. But I think everyone who is concerned by the pricing structure should let the club know, so they can gauge the fans' opinion and look to address it in the future. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

    Simply putting up prices isn't necessarily the best business plan.

    Sorry, Jay, but.....

    ....that money buys a hell of a lot of other things, and when time is scarce and the product on offer ****, it's not the biggest leap of faith ever to make the decision to stay away.

    Why can almost every other club, some in more parlous financial states than us, see the long-term financial advantage of getting young supporters in. Been to Brentford a few times with some friends and their kids, and the club are all but paying you to bring them!! Genuine family atmosphere, and the kids seem to lap it up.

    The blinkered, self-destructive strategy being followed by the clowns in charge at Oakwell could well bring the club down again.

    redstar you want EVERY post removed

    just let people have their say, ok the club might not agree with it but tough. quite frankly **** them, they are in a very privilaged position and the board of directors put themselves up there if they cant handle the criticism when THEIR decisions are being questioned then they arent the right people for the job. if they can handle it then they wont have a problem with the post.

    For me people CAN have their say.

    I'm not sure that that is acceptable to all and I don;t think certain people will like being called "clowns"

    no, no, no, no

    If something is wrong then it's libel. Isn't it? For instance, if you were playing monopoly and I said you were playing bridge then I would have libeled you. Wouldn't I?

    Defamation

    "Judges tell juries that a statement about a person is defamatory of him if it tends to do any of the following:
    (a) expose him to hatred, ridicule or contempt;
    (b) cause him to be shunned or avoided;
    (c) lower him in the estimation of right-thinking members of society generally; or
    (d) disparage him in his business, trade, office, or profession.

    Notice the words 'tend to', which are important. The person suing does not have to show that the words actually did expose him to hatred or whatever."

    Taken from 'McNae's Essential Law for Journalists'

    Would say it may fall foul of (a) and (d).

    Our chairman is called Garden Shepherd.

    Do I get taken to court now?

    though of course any judge in the country

    would take one look at our pricing strategy and would call the board* much worse than clowns

    *Note: The board i mean is this one. honest

    Nope.

    Three things have to be present... identification, publication and defamation.

    Mr Shepherd could argue that he is identified by that statement as it is a parody on his name which can be recognised by those familiar to him. It has been published. But would say that no reasonable person would seriously consider it to be defamatory.

    Would be a jury.

    But you could claim fair comment in that it is merely an opinion based on facts which are in the public interest. That would be a better defence if it was said for example "tickets for BFC are high compared to other clubs in our league, I feel that this is because the board are greedy" *.

    *intended to illustrate a point only

    Oh behave yerssen!

    So, I'm not happy with the club's ticket pricing policy. It'd be a rum do if every voice of dissent from the fans of a football club were stifled (lol)
