I don't know how to do a poll on here, but do people think he has a future at BFC? There was a point in the match on Saturday (around 70 minutes) when Danny had a decision to make. Jennings, who was already playing badly, gave the ball away a couple of times in a row. The 2nd/3rd time he did this the Donny player played an easy pass inside and ran down the line for the return pass. Jennings reaction was to throw his hands in the air and look over at the dugout. He let his man go completely and left Smith 2 on 1. It was like a schoolboy having a paddy because he wasn't good enough. I thought Danny should have dragged Jennings off the pitch and changed the system, but instead he switched flanks with Kiwomya in the hope he would play better against a different defender, which didn't work. No doubt Jennings has more than enough ability to be a real threat in this league, but he is a passenger at the moment and his attitude is terrible. Last thing we need in such a young team at the moment IMO. Coupled with the fact he is probably among the highest earners at the club. I would be happy to see him go.
It's a great shame watching an undoubtedly gifted youngster waste his talent in a division he should be tearing apart. You can guarantee though if he does leave, he'll score a bucketload for his next team. I think Danny will stick with him till the end of the season. If he's still putting in performances akin to Saturday's, then I'll be glad to see the back of him come May.
To be honest I can't imagine Danny could move him on until the end of the season anyway, but would you continue to play him until then in the hope he rediscovers any kind of form/confidence? Saturday was the match I lost faith he ever will and would be happy for him to go out on loan or play u21s. George Smith would be twice the player with a half decent winger in front of him.
I think he's become a bit of a scapegoat because people know what he's capable of. When he came back from MK Dons he oozed confidence and scored some spectacular goals. He's scored a few this season as well, most notably at Chester. I didn't think he came up to expectations at Donny but he was nowhere near as bad as people make out. He looked our only threat in the first half such was the anonymity of Kiwomya, Hourihane, Waring etc. I'm not saying he was brilliant but I'd say Nyatanga, Berry, Hourihane, Waring, Kiwomya, Holgate all had poorer games than him.
I'd give him a bit longer but he must be on borrowed time now. There is no doubting his ability but his attitude appears to be poor so unless he improves then he has to go.
Most confidence players low on confidence begin to play within themselves and keep things simple as they are scared to try and do the things they did with ease when they were playing well. Jennings (maybe admirably) doesn't fall into that trap. Time and time again he tries tricks, step overs etc which at the moment are just not working for him. Not only is he losing the ball, but he is losing it in dangerous areas and then not tracking back. Smith was like a lamb to the slaughter. I just think right now he is a negative impact on a very impressionable young team.
We don't know what he's capable of. We can only go on what we've seen with our own eyes. He played a few league one games for Tranmere and he was raved about way too soon. He wasted a season in Germany where he didn't play. He came to us in the championship and never looked like a championship player. Went to MK Dons and seems he did well but we didn't watch his games there so just have to go on what we heard. He came back to us and had a blip in his usual form where he found decent form for about half a dozen games, scoring some good goals. Then he went back to his pre MK ways of being poor. We got relegated so thought this league would be easier for him but he's just as poor as last season. He's likely one of our top earners and rarely looks like scoring. He hardly ever takes on his man, prefering to hold the ball up to bring others into the attack, which in turn means our opponents have longer to deal with our attack.
Ought to try him up front as he's totally ineffective as a winger at the minute but he does know where the net is.
I`ve seen games where nowts come off for the lad, but for me he is one of a few that does try to beat men and make things happen.
He need a mentor. Someone in the style of Coppinger, to one learn how to be a professional footballer and two to learn how to be an effective footballer. If he doesn't show this by the end of the season that he has to go I'm afraid.
I think he is suffering from the formation and tempo we are playing at, he is not getting enough ball let alone in the right areas of the pitch, with enough options. He tends to be on his own with only option to beat the man, unfortunately Smith can't get there to overlap, the centre midfielders don't support him. On the other side though he is lazy, when he does get in a defensive position he stands to far off the player with the ball rather than pressing him he leaves an easy ball (he's not the only one). Also as a supply line he isn't one, he is so right footed all he does is come inside and there is no angle for crosses just him having a shot, the strikers get very little. For me he should be on the right, beating the full back and fizzing balls into the box.
For me several players need dropping. Hourihane & Jennings would be top of that list. Think defensively we are much better than the start of the season, but we do not command the ball & as a result we are going to win very little. We all expected Jennings to be one of the stars, not only of the team, but of the division, but instead he looks like the fat kid off Kes, that got stuck in the goals.
