Yep, even I'm not clued up on this lad. Not sure how many times he's played for Man Utd but he's just been called up to the England squad. The more this goes on, the more I start thinking Jacob might still get a cap.
Lingard has been on form of late. But only for 1 or 2 games. With Vardy out i can understand a replacement but shouldn't we stick to one or two he has tried already to give them a better run? It doesn't matter anyway as all the older codgers will be wheeled back out when the championship really starts.
Will certainly be on the radar from his time with the U21's and we're not exactly flush with technically gifted central midfielders. I remember George Best saying he couldn't believe how many modern footballers couldn't use their 'wrong' foot. Butterfield is still the most both footed player I've ever seen or am likely to see. Genuinely couldn't tell which one he preferred. Such a simple skill when you think about it but gives you such an advantage being able to turn both ways.
Just needs to get promoted with Derby this season (looks possible) and then perform in the big league if he gets the opportunity to. At 25, he's still got time. Never been an easier time to get an England cap. I'm amazed that Drinkwater hasn't had a look in yet, he's been exceptional for Leicester since Pearson was sacked. I think Rodriguez and Cresswell have been overlooked harshly too. And shouldn't we be giving Butland a run in goal, in these friendlies?
I don't think he'd be anywhere near if it wasn't for injuries. Welbeck, Sturridge, Vardy all injured & Carroll's only just come back to fitness
It'd be brilliant for either Butterfield or Drinkwater to get a cap & in all honesty they aren't far off. Henderson, Delph, Wilshere, Milner, Carrick & Shelvey are seen as our best centre mids. Only Wilshere has any star quality & he's always injured. Carrick & Milner don't have long left. A couple others get injuries & who is there? Colback? Cork? Mason? Ali? None are great, I'd hope Drinkwater will get a cap this season with the way he's playing
Exactly my thinking. Although saying all that, Jacob has Hendrick, Thorne, Johnson, Bryson and Hughes to fight for a place in this Derby side. Unreal central options for that level, and cost a pretty penny. If they do pull off Jordan Rhodes and Michail Antonio in January, then I think it's hello Premier League. I'm actually staggered at how huge a club they are. I wasn't that aware of it until this happened. But the setup there is frightening. I think they'll eventually be top ten in the top flight. Their owner sold his shares in Candy Crush for hundreds of millions recently, on top of his hundreds of millions earned elsewhere. Huge local Derby supporter too. He's like Patrick Cryne but with 100 times more money.
Fact is there aren't that many Premier league players to choose from, not even taking into account quality and position.
I wondered where the money is coming from. Must be a serious push for promotion with the money spent on Butterfield, Ince, Bent, Shackell, Weimann & Johnson. I like that Christie at right back too. He's a beast, reminds me a bit of Micah Richards when he came through at City
Yep agree. But would love to see how many players in the Prem that play (not squad) i.e. played majority of games this season qualify for England.
I think Jay's been unlucky with injuries the last 18 months. Before that you'd have had him nailed on as a regular. I don't see the Sterling hype myself. Reminds me of Wright-Phillips.
Re. Two footed players. It goes back to when you're at school. At 10 years old we were told by the sports master to kick a ball. All those who kicked with their right played on the left and v.v. As a result by age 12, my schoolmates and I were two footed.
Very true whitey.Sterling Doesn't have that exceptional technical ability gifted to the greats, especially when team not that great ala Bale,Ibramhovic etc.
