Had a phone call from him yesdy(we'll be working together shortly). Can anyone give me some info of his reds days plz.His playing days are before i was a reds fan.Cheers
We signed him from Donny.
Think Clarkey signed him, decent midfielder, good passer and notched the occasional goal.
Think machin flogged him to Grimsby.

Scored one of the best goals I've ever seen Away at Chelsea. Only trouble is we lost, think it was 5-3 but not sure. Decent player, one of those types who didn't stand out but when he was not in the team he was missed.
A Fifer, Played generally as attacking midfielder. 129 league matches between 86 & 90. Scored 11 goals
I know Jim. When you meet him, talk about his Clarkey days more than Machin's. Very skilfull, compact and unsung.
i remember him most from all of the players when i was mascot v Hull 1987. decent midfielder without ever pulling up any trees. Seem to remember him being the target of the boo-boys at times.
Think he's playing for the Barnsley Masters team don't know anything on his professional career, slightly before my time.
RE: Do you go in the Newton by any chance ? Not often mate only on family get-togethers.Am a joiner and jims a heating engineer.Av got a shop to refurb in maltby and jims doing plumbing and heating for me.

RE: Jim Dobbin.......Here's his details.... Played for the Reds between 1986-1991. Born Dunfermline 17/09/1963; started with Whitburn Boys' Club; Celtic 2 games 0 goals; Motherwell (loan) 2 games 0 goals; Doncaster Rovers 64 games 13 goals; Barnsley 129 games 12 goals; Grimsby Town 164 games 21 goals. I can't find what happened to him after Grimsby Town. I saw him play a number of times. He was a well-balanced, ball-playing midfielder, who obviously had a very good playing record in this part of the world over a number of seasons. A good team-player who was consistent in performance. He also had good pace. It is odd that his scoring record wasn't better, given his ball-playing skills and pace. I think that we were hoping for another Glavin when we signed him, especially given his Celtic roots and some similarities of position and style. He was in that league, but was an excellent club-man, who was always dependable. I guess that he was a coaches dream and maintained both fitness and commitment both in training and on the field. You would have to 357 matches with three clubs over several seasons. Amazing how often he nearly scored. Good memories of him. Give him the fans regards.
RE: Sprotborough red.. I live on a cul-de-sac and when we moved in, Neil Redfearn lived across from us when he played for Donny. Then when Andy Saville signed from Walsall he moved in next door to us and next came Andy Rammell into next door but one. Jim lived on the road behind but it was quite a surreal time being a Barnsley fan!
RE: Jim Dobbin..... He is decent bloke, he covers the match stats for the Press Association on match days. Always has good words to say about the current squad and gives the lads good ratings.
