After the dog's abuse he got after the Hillsborough defeat, I'm surprised he didn't do it earlier. Don't understand any footballer being on Twitter, it's just asking for keyboard warriors to get stuck in. If I was DW I'd ban the lot from having Twitter accounts
No idea, don't know the gent. Does that matter though? Having usage guidelines and a code of conduct is one thing. Banning is another Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I noticed this.. i tried to tweet this morning hoping his surgery goes well and his account was coming up. May be taking abuse and deleted it for a few days
Interestingly coincides with him being ruled out for rest of season. Last kick for BFC? I do love a conspiracy theory. Maybe he got abducted by aliens. Like that plane in Malaysia?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
No but I haven't got one. Never saw the fascination with it. I'm also not banned from having a session on the ale the night before a match Football's very different to your normal job. You leave yourself wide open to misinterpretation and abuse if you make a statement about a game or play a bad back-pass like Jim did at Hillsborough. What good does it do for a professional footballer to have one? Can't think of any benefit whatsoever other than the ego trip of having 3,000 followers. I can see why people would follow stars from sport & entertainment, they obviously feel closer to them and must get a buzz if they ever get a reply from one. I can also see why you would follow Talksport, the FA or any other body - just to receive the news first hand. But for the life of me, I'm baffled as to why anyone at BFC other than the club itself would have a Twitter account. Has DW got one?
I think it is a fantastic PR tool for the club. It shows the human side to the players and allows their personalities to show which often isn't possible just on the football pitch which builds a connection between the players and the fans and in turn furthers the connection between the club and the fans. Take Jim for example, without social media we'd just know him as a footballer who tries a lot. With it we know that he is a character who loves a laugh and joke, likes a good sing song and doesn't mind looking silly and has one of the craziest funniest personalities around. Another prime example is David Preece. Poor backup keeper stealing a wage who we know nothing about or intelligent writer with lots of football knowledge and a really clever quick wit, polite and friendly to Barnsley fans and always speaks well of Barnsley FC
It's not about benefit. It's about being part of the human race. Twitter is a bit wnak really, we all know that, it's just a bit of fluff, but millions and millions of people are signed up to it and use it every day. They enjoy it. Footballers are people too and they shouldn't be excluded from things because of their job. Using Twitter isn't detrimental in any way to their physical condition as an athlete, like say going out on the piss, and it's not like they're part of MI5 and can give away national secrets. They're just footballers, a job of no importance or consequence at all really apart from being ludicrously well paid, and there's no reason they shouldn't use the internet like everyone else.
One of my favourite followers was Jim. When I realised I'd lost a follower, I checked to see who it was, and it told me nobody had done. I then realised I was following one less person as well, which usually means some fcuker has blocked me. But then I was told shortly after that Jim's account was shut down. Gutted. He was a funny bugger on there as well, as he is generally. Still no the wiser on why he's left.
Now, you all know I love Jim, but his account wasn't the most professional ever. I wouldn't be surpised if he'd been asked to tone it down a bit, and he just decided to delete it completely instead.
