Worst player for us today. Not seen any criticism of his performance though on here, and whilst some may say that's because we're trying to stay positive/behind them etc, I've seen McNulty and Perkins get plenty of stick, so what's going on??
This BBS is about opinions and I think you're wrong Whitey. OK....Jim didn't have a brilliant game, but we lost today because of absolute sh!te defending. McNulty & Kennedy were awful..............and Crainie was only ever so slightly better.
ok, O'brien was shocking. Didn't look interested. but to be fair most players seemed a yard off the pace today
I thought O'Brien was anonymous, aside from not challenging aerially or finding a teammate with a pass/cross, and that (IMO) allowed Elliott (first half) to dictate from central midfield. Mellis should have started. In fact, I thought that the exclusion of Hassell was a joke but jesus wept to not be selecting Mellis borders on insanity.
Jim has been playing very well recently, and in my opinion, his energy has been a large part of our success under Flicker. I, personally would not have dropped Jim for Mellis. That said...........I, personally would rather play KIPPER JACKSON as centre half than McNulty.
We've just gone on an unbeaten run Of nine matches. Personally, I'm prepared to cut every one of those players who've made a contribution to it some slack now that we've lost. Whilst we've been on this run, it has been said on quite a few occasions that when it finally ended for folk not to go over the top with criticism, as we're all now supposed to be pulling in the same direction and in it together. A number of players today didn't perform as well as they had done previously. But some of the intolerance for those player's displays has, for me, been just as disappointing as today's result.
Re: We've just gone on an unbeaten run You're right, Kev. But all in all, I have been impressed with our reaction as a whole. Let's put this behind us. We can't alter the result. But we can certainly do our bit next Saturday in urging the lads onto victory. Thar a wise old bugger.
Re: We've just gone on an unbeaten run To say Jim was not interested is naive nonsense. The team mis-fired today, it happens.
Re: We've just gone on an unbeaten run To say he was not interested may be naive nonsense. I didn't say that, though. Try again, Paul.
Sorry Andy, but I can't agree with that. 'Old bugger' I can agree with, but wise? Nah, I'm not having that, mate!
Re: Sorry Andy, but Andy in a way you are correct, JOB was very ineffective yesterday. I do think Perkins and Tunnicliffe gelled more as the game went on and would like to see those two anchoring the midfield with Mellis in front of them. Problems at the back, yes they all had shockers, IMO Delap was the best of a bad bunch, making several crucial interceptions and blocks in the first half. We have a problem at Left back, dont disrupt what has been a solid back 3 and create another problem. Leave TK in the back three. Get a LB to fill the problem position. Yesterday I would have been tempted to swap TK and McNulty as that was the only real option.
They all have to play to their max. That is what has given us this chance. Will be interesting to see if we move to bring someone in and who this week.
It's not like the team completely rolled over, it wasn't one way traffic, they probably only had slightly more possession. It was defensive lapses - didn't all the goals come from free kicks and corners as well?
Re: Jim O'Brien, new target. Tha writes some good stuff YT most of the time but your OTT assessment of Wiseman`s abilities, or lack of them, throughout the season and now it looks like we have a new whipping boy in O`Brien to take the strain this last couple of weeks doesn`t do you any favours in my book. Is this to do with Flicker requesting folk lay off Wiseman, that you need another to let off steam at? (most of us do have our faves to give some stick to but not to the extent of being blinkered like some posters) O`Brien`s form has been a little in and out all season, like most of our players.
Can't agree that he was the worst player. I can agree that he doesn't really fit in to the system of playing central midfield, which is for me why he was anonymous yesterday. To suggest playing Mellis would have helped us stop Andrews dominating the midfield is nonsense. We just had an off day where we never got to grips with the game - Mellis in midfield would have only heightened that problem. When the going gets tough, Mellis tends to get going. That's not a criticism, just an assessment of his strengths and weaknesses.
I believe that Mellis would have found the space and pockets in between 'Elliott' (not Andrews) and the defence, and we all know his vision/passing is his best quality. I'm not suggesting we'd have won based purely on that, but it's my opinion that the game was lost first half in central midfield. It's not nonsense, it's merely my opinion. It may be wrong, or something you disagree with, but nonsense it isn't. He's not my new whipping boy. I don't have whipping boys. I do however, have opinions of each player, and they're formed after years of watching them play for us. It's been my opinion from late 2011 that Wiseman isn't a capable defender. I don't give him stick. I say what I see. And what I see from Wiseman is a lower league 'defender' with potential to be a decent option on the wing maybe at this level. Jim O'Brien is one of the players I rarely criticise, as you always get 100% effort from the lad. But in the last couple of games he's been poor, IMO. The reason I pointed this out in this thread was in the main in retaliation at yet more stick dished out to Jimmy McNulty who was no worse than the other defenders yesterday. And people are saying he's not had decent games this season. I dispute that. He was great against Burnley, Leeds and I thought he performed decently against Wolves when he came on, too. But hey, we're all entitled to our own opinions.
For McNulty read Wiseman at centre half, he got stick when he had an alreight game, spose its darn to likeability or going against the flow. This aint owt personal it was just summat have picked up from reading your posts, lot of good stuff I agree with, however, I think you have been OTT on Wiseman and it looks like Jimbob could be heading the same way, I could be wrong, just thought you may be interested in a bit of feedback thats all. Only my opinion feel free to tell mi to **** off.
**** off. No mate, you fill yer booits. Unlike some on here I'll happily admit I can be wrong. I don't think I've ever been OTT with Wiseman. I'd gladly see him in the team in a wide right role, possibly even central midfield ala Etuhu. But he's not a defender. We're talking about a fella who's had nearly 80 games for us, and you can count the good ones on one hand (and 3 of those were when he was playing more advanced). McNulty is a better defender than Wiseman, but - IMO - neither are as good as Hassell. Jimbob as you call him, has had a couple of dodgy displays, which I've pointed out. I just think (again) that we have better options in the position Flitcroft is playing him in. But I do rate him out wide.
