Club could do worse than do something similar - get Neerav, Flatman, Stormaz etc out to genuine questioning rather than PR controlled. Cryne & Mansford did exactly the same when we were struggling after sacking Wilson and I think it helped. Transparency, honesty etc.
I agree about a statement of intent but I disagree the way Ratcliffe is going about his business. If our board sacked laundry workers, cleaning staff, catering staff, long term employees, made everybody turn the light off ,increase tickets so the average person is priced out etc etc the fan base would be in uproar an rightly so. I think Ratcliffe was seen as a knight in shining armour but as the saying goes "be careful what you wish for ".
Is that not what the club have already done? Matt Bailey, Stretch, Media team? Home based physios in Sedgy & Vikki Stevens. Okay not all sacked per se, but proud Barnsley fans seeking options elsewhere because working for the club isn't that great anymore.
The problem is that he was not even being vaguely honest. The cuts and increases are to service the Glaziers debt. They are not for investment in the playing staff. There are sound business reasons not to pay that debt off. It will increase the saleability of the club and the Glaziers can then enforce him selling his share to someone else. But an interview where a club spokesman tells easily disproved lies isn’t something to emulate.
And Doris having a sarnie not a cooked meal will take a while to pay off the 350k a week they pay Casemiro. Not to mention the 20 plus million spent on sacking Ten Haag and recruiting Amorim. Why should normal people pay for a billionaires **** ups.
The comparison is miles apart.Man Utd have culled their staff as a money saving exercise whilst they,re one of the biggest clubs in the world.I don't know of any of the staff you mention being sacked.Keith was part time and it was explained they were setting on a permanent photographer which he couldn;t do due to work commitments.(good to see him at Oakwell Saturday) by the way.
I agree about our club. Cryne got things wrong at times like when fans were on his back after sacking club legend wilson(even though it was the right decision) and when we were rock bottom under Lee Jay. But he was always open and transparent with fans.
I read an article late last year about Man Utd and their non-playing staff, think it was in The Athletic, around July time. It’s absurd - and quite right there’s a cull. Compared to their traditional rivals, they are employing something daft like double the amount staff (can’t remember exact figure, but it was ridiculous). They’ve just got bloated and bloated. Man City employ half the staff Man Utd do. There was a direct comparison between them, Arsenal & Liverpool. The figures just don’t stack up - even duplicating staff with a London office. Arsenal & Liverpool are having more success and less staff. It’s the fans who are paying inflated ticket and shirt prices to cover the bloated cost as well.
There can be a comparison between the two clubs. However I would compare the current ownership at BFC to the glazer family and I would say BFC needs the open heart surgery that Sir Jim is applying to Man U. Jobs for the boys (or girls in case of JAQs daughter), the negligence of the football club from top to bottom, the reckless nature of the recruitment , I could go on. Needs someone who cares about the club , but more importantly knows what is needed
Julie Anne's daughter works for Burnley. So maybe she's actually just really good at what she does? But this is why the OP is spot on. If the club continues to operate in a vacuum, doesn't engage or regularly communicate with the fanbase, disenchantment takes root and rumour, conspiracy and lies run wild.
The fact she was even appointed. Was there an interview process for her role? Would any person with her background ever apply for a role at an English third division football club? What and why was her role needed. Another thing needed, the amount of unnecessary roles at the club
To have a CEO and SD that then needs a “Head of football operations” below it. To have a club sec and an assistant to the club sec. More first team coaches than I can remember. We seem to be running out of titles for all the “leading” academy coaches. What does Bobby Hassell actually do as Academy manager? There is a head of recruitment and coaching for the academy, so can’t see what he does.
A mate sent me her LinkedIn profile. She looks to have done six months at Oakwell and been snapped up by Burnley in a job title I can’t remember the name of. I do understand why that appointment and many moons ago, James getting involved causes some concern amongst fans. Especially when the club doesn’t openly speak on it. But I had years working with the latter and as well as being a great bloke he was genius at what he did.
Just getting into line with the rest of the modern football world. This loads of coaches myth is just that - a myth. Completely normal.
modern football and elite football are separate things. Plus what point is it having a load of useless, inexperienced coaches.
It happens everywhere, mate, and some of the people complaining would do the same for their family / mates, or accept the same favor extended to themselves.
James came in with an intelligent (for its time) data based recruitment model that worked v well and helped successfully run the club alongside his father and Maurice. Penelope Edmunds was at the club for under six months, in a role that I'm positive hadn't existed before, and has seemingly used her mother's vanity project to gain employment. Incomparable
