I've always loved Jimbo, but many are of the belief that he is just a grafter, myself normally included. The general consensus is usually that he'll run his socks off all game, give a bit of defensive cover, and generally work hard. But, some of his performances this season have suggested to me that he's got quite a bit of quality about him. Today's performance, away at Ipswich, his goal against Cov. I think he's really starting to come along. Could this have been sparked by pressure from McCourt? He said himself after the Ipswich game that he's competing against Paddy for a place. Since then he's showed quite a lot going forward, making a decent run here and there, and showing an actual threat. Maybe I'm just mental. Also, hi everybody, I'm new here.
Hi n welcome , personally I've always liked Jim always plays as though he cares and yes he has got a bit of quality about him
I'm firmly in the he's just a grafter camp at this stage, in general he's needed to produce a lot lot more going forward than he has, however today he was excellent, can't knock him and his form in general recently has been his best ever, remains to be seen if he can keep it up and i'm not convinced but I hope he carries it on
He has had the quality all the time hes been here, although he struggled quite a bit in his first season, he is very consistent in his work rate but a bit inconsistent on the quality side of the game. He has a quick thinking mind and with good players this shines through however when folks aren`t on the same wavelength it makes him look a plank. Quite a few on here aint got many good words to say abart him but will begrudgingly pass his good play off as work rate.
Welcome Corrie and I agree. He's hitting his prime now imo and starting to show some real qualities. Even his final ball was excellent today. Might also have found a new place in centre midfield.. taking over from Perkins perhaps..
I definitely noticed an improved since Paddy arrived, I've said that myself a few times on here. He seems to emulate him at times. Always loved Jim though, you can tell how much the club means to him. Also loved the Come Dine With Me thing he did with Steele and Preece.
Out of order comment alert So you are accusing him of not trying prior to the last few weeks I couldn't disagree more
Yes just a grafter. One of my favourite players but he lacks any form of consistency and lacks quality The occasional good performance doesn't change this
he is barnsley through and through ,he must have been played in 5 different positions this season , but on todays performance we may have found his best position
"Well, I'm gonna give him what I normally do on a Saturday. He's worked really hard today, but there's been very little in the way of quality. 5."- David Preece. That solves that one, then.
No, he said that on the Come Dine With Me thing that Jamdrop mentioned. Really should have quoted that. I'll get used to this forum malarky.

The general consensus is right dont be fooled by one or two performances ,he's a good division one player at best, when we play good class opposition he looks like Robbie Savage trying to mark Patrick Viera or Roy Keane. This is what is wrong with us,they are all good players but in this league you need to be consistent and most of our players have one good game every five.
I didn't rate him in his first season at all. I started warming to him during his second season. By the end of last season I was convinced he's the hardest working player we've ever had. You often hear pundits saying that such and such a player has run himself in to the ground, but they haven't really. In a number of games last season Jim did exactly that. He could barely walk off the pitch, he'd given absolutely everything. How can you not like a player who does that? Is he just a grafter? That's his greatest attribute, but he's more than that. He doesn't always produce, but he's doing it more consistently now. In central midfield today he was superb, in a position he has rarely played. Maybe Danny Wilson has found the ideal place in the team for him? I hope so. Well done Jim.
