Cole was arguing that he wasn't offside. He was - you CANNOT go off the pitch, then come back on and straight away get the ball.

A player is ‘out of play’ immediately he is in front of the ball and must return behind the ball as soon as possible. If the ball is kicked by his own side past a player, he may not touch or kick it, or advance, until one of the other side has first kicked it, or one of his own side has been able to kick it on a level with, or in front of him.

    Yes

You can't go behind the nets, then come back on at a wim and receive the ball. You have to be behind the ball upon returning.

    I see

I thought you just had to get back into an onside position upon returning.

I'll never figure out this new fangled offside rule.

    Nor me

And he wasn't interfering with play

I can't stand Cole, I think he's a dim little gobshite, but it has to be said he was the only decent player in blue

    cheers

I must have not been paying much attention. Was that the one where he grabbed the ball and ran around the pitch with it before getting in the face of the linesman and swearing at him repeatedly?
