Signed for Newcastle in a deal worth 20m +. Madness. If we get less than 12m for Styles we need to take a serious look at our business practices. We should be looking for high teens, that could seriously change our fortunes for years to come.
We inevitably will do unless he stays forever. I think he's right aswell with todays fees. Helik must be worth 7 million.
I'd be bitterly disappointed if we sold Helik for less than £10 million. After all Marc Roberts went for £5 million. I loved Marc Roberts, but he's not remotely in Helik's league. Plus he's a full international for a serious European team.
I am not sure what prompted you to bring a valuation of Styles compared to the transfer of a premier club player between two premier clubs, for a start off Styles has never played premier league football & secondly Willock was scoring goals on a regular basis last season at top level, Styles has only really played wing back for us so you cannot compare them position wise & until a top flight team actually shows interest then you cannot put a value on him , regarding Willock I think Newcastle have got a good player on their books an excellent signing .
Yep, Prem to Prem is different gravy. Blunts bought Ramsdale for £18m, watched him perform his craft for the worst Prem team in many a year, yet now value him at £30m. How do they justify that valuation?
Well, they are both 21 year old, English center midfielders (I don't think we will be seeing Styles at LWB going forward). So certainly comparable. And yes, Willock did have a 7 game purple patch last season, but had never really done anything outside of that. That's also why I quoted that Styles would most likely get a lower price. Us not being a premier league team does not necessitate he should be sold for less, Bentford sold Benrahma for 20m +. Of course you can put a value on your player at any time, in fact all your players should have a projected maximum value on them at all times, surely that's just pragmatic? After starring in a playoff bound season last season, Styles is realistically another good season away from attracting bids of this caliber. An upper mid table finish and a goal return between 10-15 would 100% see bids come in around that mark.
What’s the comparison between Styles and Willock? You can’t just argue they’re both English midfielders of a similar age. Willock was highly regarded at Arsenal, represented England at many youth levels, scored 8 goals in 14 games for Newcastle last season. Styles has barely played in the middle of the park above League One level. I’m all for getting a good value for our players, but some of the comparisons on here are f*cking mental at times.
It’s ok. Woodrow is worth twice as much as Toney so we’ve got loads of cash coming at some point - proper value.
Why? Willock went on loan there & was outstanding, scoring goals for fun from midfield in the premier league. Styles has 1 good season in the championship & is unproven in his preferred position
The thing with Styles is that there has been a clamour from the reds faithful to put him in the midfield but up to now he has played one championship match there & to be honest the jury will be out for a while yet to see if he actually succeeds , we all want him to but at this moment in his career we are still talking about potential & at the end of the day a player is only worth what someone will pay for them , one thing for certain is that there will not be a queue of premier clubs wanting to sign him currently & he is certainly not yet in the Willock class therefore I repeat I do not think you can compare the two players valuation wise .
Do we have to do this every time a footballer gets bought/sold? Its not even a remotely comparable transfer. Joe Willock scored 8 premier league goals last season.
I wouldn't have usually made the direct comparison between them, it came about because Willock moved today for what I think is an absurd figure for someone who has had one good 8 game spell. I was making the point that in the current climate, a similarly 'absurd' amount for Style isn't actually out of the question.
Think Styles has huge potential but not sure what he’s done yet to justify. £12m price tag. Fingers crossed and all that…..
