He's on bail at the moment for a seperate assault charge, it's being tried at Crown Court who have sentencing powers above six months.

How will they have a court case if he's in jail? Will he be taken out regularly for the court case?

that one is for assaulting his ex teammate Ousmane Dabo

Trial is on june 30. he's just been sentanced for an unrelated assault charge over christmas and I believe he is up on trial for a THIRD assault charge but I can't find much information about that.

Can you tell i've just been searching?

you're right. I googled again and it is for assaulting a taxi driver in liverpool.

I wouldn't mind knowing how somebody who has been convicted of assault in the past (I believe) and who already had two charges made against him for assault was given bail for the third offence. Surely for the public's safety he should have been remanded in custody until the trial?

He was remanded in custody originally but later bailed.

I take it that was when they realised he was a footballer and that traditional laws didn't apply to him.
