Leaving Blackburn Rovers (6th place & currently in the playoffs) To join Derby County (22nd place & currently in the relegation zone) Apart from him playing for Derby on loan in 2009 only making 9 appearances & then permanently from 2013 to 2015 making 48 appearances. Why would he want to go there? Surely Blackburn is the better option & not just because they are currently in the playoffs. Maybe he prefers Kayden Jackson up front compared to Cauley Woodrow. Who knows?
His contract runs out in the summer, I'm guessing Blackburn have been delaying offering him another, Derby probably offering him a 3 year deal - no brainer really.
Salary increase. Past link to club. About 3 hours a day saved on a round trip compared to current travel times, if he still lives in Solihull. Long term contract compared to being out of contract in a few months time at his current club. Better stadium. Bigger home attendances. More of a togetherness between board and fans, unlike his current club who cannot stand the owners. Despite current league positions of both clubs I would argue that Derby will still reach the Premier League sooner than Blackburn will. I might have missed a few things.
I think he lives in or around the Midlands much nearer commute and I assume Derby are paying him similar if not more money.
He came down on a Monday Somewhere in the midlands Tasted man Tasted flea Couldn’t tell the difference.
Always baffles me that relocation is such a huge deal for people who work in such a specifically geographically based industry like football.
Maybe he thought he heard some knuckles dragging on the floor and thought he was getting replaced by Wayne Rooney again?
I doubt location has anything to do with it. There seems to be a few theories on what has led him to going there. There’s been some suggestion that he asked for a new contract, with no response, that he’s frustrated at how absent the owners are or that there is little sign of the money brought in from sales of Wharton and Smodicz along with a sell on fee for Raya being used to strengthen the team. Could be worse though, they agreed on a signing on deadline day last year, only to hit save instead of send on the paperwork and miss the deadline
