Their goalkeeper raced out of the box to punt the ball up field, it fell straight to Macdonald who was on the half way line, l seem to recall him taking a touch to control it then sending the ball over the goalkeepers head into the goal whilst the goalkeeper was scrambling to get back. Anyone else remember this? the only goal i can recall that we have scored from the half way line. (only started watching in the early eighties)

I seem to remember Steve Cooper scoring a chip from the halfway line against Sunderland, but I was very very young at the time and the pitch looked huge, so maybe it was closer to the penalty spot...?!?!?!?

Was thinking l was dreaming it because no-one ever recalls it. Remember it being a night match, l was 9 at the time and went to the match ill, was sick in the main stand and had to go home early. The stains are still on the old wooden floors behind the directors box.

Yep I sure do we won 1-0, Allan Clarke was the gaffer. That was my first full season going to Oakwell. I remember drawing a picture in my homework diary of John MacDonald scoring from the halfway line.

We had some decent players in that team although we started the season really badly: Clive Baker, Paul Futcher, Larry May, Stuart Gray, Gwyn Thomas, Steve Agnew, John MacDonald.

    Quality memories.

I also recall Paul Futcher lobbing Clive Baker v West Brom from about the halfway line to score an own goal. We won 3-1 though.

It was halfway between 18 yard box n Centre Circle.

We won 3-0 , Cooperman did a full tumbling routine instead of a couple of flips.

Dobbin scored a penalty late on as Currie had been subbed off.

    If it's the same one....

We were kicking towards the Spion Kop & I reckon Mcdonaldwas on the left as you look from the Ponty. I seem to recall that the keeper was well out of his box

I think Aylott scored fromthe halfway line as well, kicking towards the kop, but can't think of the match.

Brighton in the league cup for Aylott

We won 4-1. They were a 1st division (premiership) team.

    Cheers for that.

I was going to say it was Beckhamesque but Beckhams was probably Aylottesque.

    Neither have I

There probably weren't any cameras there.

As good as that Aylott goal was, I thought McCarthy's header was better. It's the most powerful header I've ever seen.

    Took 'rigging art

He'd notched one very similar to that in the game at home to Bolton earlier in the season. We won that 3-0, Brian Kidd played for Bolton that day. yet I can't remember what i had for me tea last night.

    ah yes....

Yep, I remember, Clarke came to the touchline to celebrate, with McDonald celebrating in his direction. That was our best period defensively that I can remember, with Baker, Futcher, May, Gray at the back and Thomas breaking up things in midfield. Unfortunately we never had the quality up front to match those players - Chandler, Foreman, Ferry, Clarke, Brodle etc. Otherwise I think wemay have got to the top level with that team.

    RE: ah yes....

Allan Clarke thought Darren Foreman would play for England. think that was the beginning of the end for him......

    I remember that Futcher og

He was about 35-40 yards out, facing his own goal (ponty end) with Don Goodman about 5 yards behind him, he played the ball neatly back to where Baker had been, only to look up and see him on the edge of the box. A classic. Unfortunately in all his years at Barnsley he never got one at the right end, the nearest I remember being a thunderous effort against Everton in the FA Cup, Southall diving full length to push it round the post.
