I remember watching Donny v Barnsley games since the 1960's and I've no problem or axe to grind with Doncaster Rovers or their fans until John Ryan came along. No doubt he has done well for his club taking them from non league to there present position but some of the things he says shows he has a massive chip on his shoulder. For a start whenever he was interviewed he would always mention Barnsley and how Donny should be where we were, how Donny should have been in the Championship instead of us because they had beat us three times that season. How the Keepmoat reminds him of Old Trafford and my favourite 2 weeks ago "when we go up this year I wont need to spend that much because these players are Championship quality".Keep dreaming John and aspiring to be US.
my gran lived in doncaster quite near belle vue , if we were there over a weekend dad used to take me late 70's . early to mid 80's... at that time they were very similar to us , ground , fans , standard of football..always used to be my "second team" till a certain mr ryan turned up.. insipid little man he is.
I know for a fact that he is genuinely jealous of our club and achievements, that's why he keeps mentioning us.
Mickey Walker was at Hillsbrough yesturday, when the radio Sheff team asked him what he was doing there he said he had come to pick his seat for next season when Donny play Sheff.Wed.John Ryan on Friday said "tomorrow will be a great day for the fans when we get to the Championship" John Ryan after saturdays defeat said"I dreamt all along that we would beat Leeds in the play off final "
Walker is nearly has arrogant as Ryan, they do seem to think they will be in the championship next season. Donny fans are great, but they are Lions led by mice, i hope Southend hammer the pillocks.
God, it's unbelievable the rubbish that comes out of that man's mouth. I can't bear him or their deluded fans. Gordon Shepherd once told me that he spoke to John Ryan a lot as Chairmen do, and that Ryan was very very envious (in an admiration way) of what we had achieved as a club. That was a couple of years ago and just before we signed Michael McIndoe. I hope they lose in the playoffs. Whoever they play, I'll be cheering for the other side, besides ,if they came up, that's another 6 points lost as we fail to ever get anything from them and then we'd have to suffer more gloating and bragging from Ryan. It doesn't bear thinking about.
They are not a second tier club - never have been in the modern era so any comparison between us and them is pointless If they do come up they will be in for a shock and see that they are nowhere near as good as they think they are and don't worry tina - the team that had the measure of us a couple of years back is gone - as is ours so it will be a completely different game
They Wish They Were Us We have better players, better ground, better crowds, play in an higher league, got to the last four of the FA Cup etc. I didn't mind them when they got into the football league. It was good to have another local team in the top 92. I wasn't even bothered when they got promoted again. The problems started when both of us were in division three and Ryan would spout drivel at every opportunity.
Especially when they played Arsenal.....remember! Second tier Arsenal team and the rubbish that came from Ryan that night! He must go somewhere to lie down and dream up the deluded drivel he comes up with!
RE: Aye, I hope you are right love. that's true generally but we have put in the performances in the most important derbies of recent - Huddersfield in play offs and Leeds last season let's not worry about Donnie because hopefully they won't be coming up anyway
RE: Aye, I hope you are right love. Hopefully not and then it will shut their braggart of a Chairman up once and for all!
in all fairness he is a tit but you cannot fault him for what he has done for Doncaster or his passion for the club!
