Bloody hell, I never knew Gordon West was a Barnsley lad, let alone that he sadly died last year of cancer.

His Wiki page reads that he turned up for trials at Blackpool as a defender and got signed on as a goalkeeper! Reminds me of going for trials as a goalkeeper and being played on the wing!! And I was better than Glyn Riley!!!

Anyway, really sad to hear of Gordon West's passing as he was a great goalkeeper.

And the very best of luck to John Stones.

Danny Cadamartrie (sp) was part of our Youth team set-up before going to Everton. Although I believe he was from Bradford.

Best wishes to young John. I hope he goes on to become a great legend at Everton, or whoever. The deal does great credit to the academy system and must also encourage other youngsters. From the club's point of view, the success, or failure of the system will depend on the wisdom with which the generated funds are invested - that will be the lasting legacy of the academy system from BFC's point of view.

We should feel proud for young John tonight, as well as those who have trained him through to that level and to become a player of that worth.
