He's destined for great things, but all in good time. What a smashing young man, proud as proud. Reds youngster on Ipswich clash Reds defender John Stones spoke to barnsleyfc.co.uk ahead of this weekend’s trip to face Ipswich. The 18-year-old has played 23 times this season for his hometown team, and is keen to keep on developing his game. “Every single minute of it, I’m loving it,” John told Barnsleyfc.co.uk. “When I leave training, I can’t wait for tomorrow’s training. I’m so happy and thankful to be playing, I’m loving my football. We know we can achieve something. “The feeling I get after the game once we’ve won or played well, clapping to the fans and seeing them clap back to me gives me a real buzz – it makes me feel good inside. It rubs off on the players when the fans are behind us, it’s a great vibe.” There was certainly a great vibe last week against Leeds – a match which John was only an observer at six years ago, “I loved the Leeds game,” he added. “I remember years ago coming to derby day, me, Rosey (Danny Rose) and Clarky (Jordan Clark). We were in the stand watching the game. I can remember looking at the away stand and seeing all those fans and thinking ‘I want to play in this’ then coming out to play in the manner that we played and beat them, it was such a big relief, not just for us but for the fans. “I can’t thank the fans enough, when we walk out and my name is called out, I don’t think they notice but it gives me a boost, it makes me feel good to know that they are behind us.” Turning his attention to Ipswich, John has also been boosted by a call-up to the England Under 19s for the Young Lions’ match against Denmark next month, but is focused on this weekend. “The lads are all looking forward to it. We’re in game mode now, Leeds has gone. We’re looking for another three points. We’re just concentrating on Ipswich, we’re really upbeat and looking forward to it. “The lads are focused and hungry as ever. We’re all really happy for Flicker, he knows us like the back of his hand, we all get on and good things are going to happen.”
Makes you proud to be a Barnsley fan shame all our squad is not like him we would have a few more points in the bag
Seems to have his feet well and truly on the ground, and should have a great career ahead of him; I just hope we don't do another Tommy Taylor...
More stones chants needed... In fact more vocal support all round would be good. I sit in east stand upper and often you could hear a pin drop its so quiet... If ponty end get going its usually me and a handful of others... Come on east stand sing up for the reds!
What a lad!! Nice to know that the singing does encourage the lads, if only more people joined in. Makes you proud to be a Tarn fan. Stonsey for England!
Top fella. He'll double in value over the next season. I really really hope the Club see that, and can afford to hang in there..
shame the don will meet him and say "I know you love it here and you would like to play more than 25 games for your hometown club, but we have had a **** offer for you and we need to sell. Pack your bags and go sit on a bench in the premier division"
